I just got back home to find a voice text on my landline saying "Do not drink tap water, Thames polluted" the mobile number it came from is not one that I immediately recognise. Has anyone else heard anything about this or is it a hoax or something?

hmm... and just now another one, 15 mins later but saying "Don't drink tap water unless boiled... etc" Still, if we can drink boiled water then at least that means I can have a cup of tea!

Anyone know how I can find out if Newbury gets its water from the Thames? I wouldn't want to poison myself if the terrorist only meant to wipe out you Londoners...

You could try calling Thames Water on 020 7636 8686.

I am drinking tap water right now. I got a nice refreshing glass of tap water and came back to my computer and opened this thread and gulped. My office is right next to the Thames! Although I doubt they pump the water directly out of it. I doubt. I hope. There used to be a sign by the river (Thames) when I was younger which informed the casual passerby that a mouthful of Thames water had more bacteria and stuff than a teaspoon full of dog poo. Certainly put me off filling my flask there. Or diving off the bridge. Or doing the rolling dive things in canoes.

Although I feel now that the sign may have been an exageration, if not an outright lie. The Thames was extremely dirty that year though, and choked with duckweed, so who knows?

Now I fill my flask directly from the anus of a sleeping tramp's dog.

Thanks for that number misc. I will let you know if I manage to verify anything one way or the other.

Just spoke to them, they said that "if that was the case they would know about it so as far as they know the water is still safe to drink." So there you go.

Who reckons they've now tagged Uber as a potential terrorist threat?
