About 11 years ago I was at a frat party and he turned up with his band and set up right there in the house and played about an hour... I carried his bassist's erm... umm.. bass and had a conversation with George. The first famous person I ever saw up close and personal, let alone spoke too.
He was playing in the next town and the show got canceled and he heard about the party and just showed up.
I've been a fan ever since.

Some of the invited artists do little acoustic sets and whatnot in the foyer of the RFH for free. So, it's worth keeping an eye on the website/Time Out/Guardian Guide etc.

I'm going to the blade runner thing. Regular readers of my last.fm page will have noticed that Vangelis seems to have maintained a high position on my most listened to artists. This is a result of caning the blade runner soundtrack over the last couple of years, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it made cool by the Bristolian misterablists.

Most of these musicians are worth watching, it's just most of them don't suit the southbank. That venue's more suited for the classical or introspective stuff. Stupid Meltdown, should've been at Brixton.

Seeing the bands out of context is quite cool, actually. The acoustic at the RFH isn't great for rock, though. After seeing Selfish **** last year we dashed downstairs to get a couple of pints before the main attraction. We heard Motorhead firing up from the foyer and dashed back up to the auditorium. There was an usher on the door, he used what I suppose was his usual approach to the situation, "I'm sorry but the performance has started, you can't enter now as it might disturb the other audience members." There was much laughing as we elbowed him out of the way and a stream of stragglers piled in.

A large unkempt gentleman in a greasy leather jacket approached me, tugged a French lace hankerchief from his cuff and flounced it in my direction. Needless to say, I took a pinch of snuff and sauntered regally past him.

Top evening. Primal Scream were excellent, highpoint was Swastika Eyes. MC5 (or DKT as they're now known) were astonishing. Extremely powerful. Kramer is a fabulous guitarist. Handsome Dick was bumped for the Alice In Chains guy, Duvall. I really wanted to see Dick, but Duvall was a superb frontman, he really caught the Tyner vibe. Very good. The show was running late and the Masketeers were exhausted, so we had to leave before the end (sob) but apparently all we missed was John Sinclair doing his hippy rant thing. So... not perfect, but a memorable night.

Primal Scream live have got to be one of my all time favourite Bands. They can be hard as nails those boys. Still not convinced by watching them in the festival hall though.
