So. Rock Band has just announced that it's that it's handing out track creation tools to the music industry, meaning that big labels, indie bands, whoever-the-fuck, can start releasing songs to the game in much the same way they might release it as a CD. So you know - a single would come out as CD, MP3 Download, and Rock Band track. Pretty fucking sweet, huh?
Given the number of bands who are finding revenue from Rock Band is giving them a new lease of life, I think this is going to be taken up in a big way. Perhaps not quite to the point where it becomes the new platform for music, but enough that it's a significant new channel for musicians to explore. Who knows! Maybe one day it'll be talked about in the same way as iTunes.
