So, the next England manager is likely to be another Jonny Foreigner, this time a man who admits that his grasp of the English language is not great. However, he has won The World Cup, and has managed Portugal to their only major final.

Personally, I think that we had to go non-English, as all of the leading English candidates have done fook all. I'm particularly glad that Steve McClaren didn't get the job, as he is a hideously boring man, and a ginger. I would have preferred Martin O'Neil or Guus Hiddink, but the FA probably insulted them both in some way. Big Phil has an outstanding international record, so he's ok with me.

I know there's a few football fans on TMO. What do you think? Does it matter that he's not English? Is he the best man for the job? Does anyone care?

I'm so pleased that McClaren isn't looking like a viable option - I have stated in the real world that I would stop supporting England if McClaren got the job, I find the team dull and frustrating enough with Sven at the helm. Gus or Martin would have been my first choice, but I hope Big Phil comes in and upsets some people, changes things around a little, and maybe gets rid of some players being picked on name and not performance.

I think though that this whole thing has highlighted what a mess the FA is. I'd rather they sorted out the association at some point, stopped it being such an archaiac businessmans club, and got rid of David Dein at the very least.

I guess it's a case of, if you can't beat them get them to join you, seeing as he was manager of Brazil when they knocked us out of the last world cup and of Portugal when they knocked us out of the last euros.

This is quite an intriguing scheme by-the-way. A lot of thought's gone into it ("'66" % off and so on), and yet it blatantly doesn't work as an enticing offer at all.

Great for the terrace though, singing Scolari to the tune of Volare:

"Scolari, oh oh, e contare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings"

My housemate told me this morning about the story, and I sang that at him. But he just looked at me blank faced and left for work.

Does Sven have a song?

I hope that having Volare/Scolari to sing will mean the end of that god-awful Sheffield brass band...

I understand that Portugal and England could meet in the world cup if the maths works out right. Scolari can't win that one can he. I mean, if he wins then English fans will hate him for knocking us out of the world cup, and if he loses then he must be the worst manager ever, to lose to England in a world cup qf. Meybe he'll just get into the English spirit and throw a sickie on that day.

Yes - it's off Soccer AM. Sven Gordon Eriksson, la la la la laaa. Sven Gordon Eriksson laaa la la la la la etc. [Frown]

And the Sheffield brass band is there to stay, as the Wednesday have banned them from Hillsborough.

Correct. If England win, he can always use the excuse that England have the better players, which is basically true. If Portugal win, well it would be proof of his tactical genius and we'd be lucky to have a coach like him.

Damn. I hate them. Really, really hate them.

So can we expect to see a team that gives room to Rooney and Cole to play total football, with an as yet unspotted holding midfielder that no one likes to come in and be the lynch pin of the side, while a load of thirty year olds sulk on the bench and send texts to Sven saying "missing you"?

I like the look of him. I bet he shouts a lot, screws up his face, makes exaggerated hand gestures and drops a lot of Portuguese insults in as he tells his players what to do. I think the over-excited bullying approach could work with England.

What I object to is the colour of some of these wheelie bins and where they are left, in some areas outside all week in the front garden.

He does indeed do all this. I for one am really looking forward to the moment that he substitutes Beckham, boiling with rage at GB's ineptitude, and shaking and waving his arms around while Beckham cries and struggles to verbalise his feelings.

That was fun while it lasted....

FA - morons.

So, another few months fearing that Dullard McClaren will get the job. O'Neil, let it be O'Neil, please please please.

Or another foriegner, just to listen to football cocks try to articulate arguments about national pride while trying not to sound racist.
