Huzzah. I propose a thread on CT proposing a racing evening. It'll be a nice break from running around clicking on things with my crosshairs.

I got an xbox 360 wireless steering wheel (with wires) last night. A mate was selling it for £20 because one of the paddles was loose and triggered too easily. I spent about 15 minutes undoing allen key bolts and found a loose spring rattling around inside, which was easily fixed.

It makes it harder at first. With a wheel, you obviously can't flick as quickly from one direction to the other. On the other side of the coin, you get much finer control. On a quick run around a few tracks with the wheel yesterday I was able to stick pretty closely to the racing line - using the entire width of the track on the corner entries/exits, clipping the apex, etc. With the controller I always found myself steering too far and then having to balance the turn with the accelerator and brake. The wheel makes it all much smoother and more direct.
The force feedback also gives a tangiable sense of your grip level. Much more immersive than a bit of rumble on the controller.

I already have a tangible sense of my grip level. Today it has been waning steadily towards zero, and will soon be lost altogether.

Playing through the early stages of Forza 3. Lots of grind with a good supply of reward cars to keep me going, although the races thus far are mercifully short. I've turned a lot of the assists off to make things more interesting, so I'm getting + 55% (roughly) credits for a win. Had a play with the auction house last night and failed to win a bid on a variety of cars, much like ebay in that respect.
I like the quick upgrade function as I'm not much of an expert about car stuff. Graphically to me it looks very nice.
Annoyingly have been gifted some "content missing" cars. I got two discs with my copy, one with the game and one with I presume, subsequently released DLC content. But I also got a code for some more DLC content which I tried to redeem, but wouldn't work... I'll have to look into it a bit more, when I get further on with the game.

My code for this stopped working as well. I got a promo code with the game which allowed me to download the first upgrade pack (available before release day, the fucks) which I downloaded and enjoyed. But now i can't actually select any of the cars I downloaded from that pack, and if i do it takes me to xbox live to download it. Then tells me there was an error and it couldn't be downloaded.

I had the same problem with the Motorsports Legends Car Pack, but I eventually got it to work by entering the code on the xbox live website.
I'm unlocking some really fast cars (racing Ferraris, Porsches, etc) which I'm finding pretty dull, but I just bought a Datsun 510 and that's a huge amount of fun. I upgraded it a bit and took it out on the Japanese mountain tracks last night. The BMW M3 (E30) is also quite a laugh.

Anything medium sized with a fair whack of power. Stuff like Supras and RWD skylines are pretty decent. Or you can get something small and do an engine conversion or just tune it up for fair power. An MX5 with over 250hp will go plenty sideways.
I might power it up tonight and see if i've got anything suitable i could lend you.

Got my code to work on Forza. Like Misc said. Before you start up the game, you go to xbox button, Marketplace, Redeem Code, type in the code and it lets you download the tracks and cars it says on the card.

Got one of my Datsun 510s up to 900+ horsepower last night. It's four wheel drive and has an R34 engine. Looks pretty silly running around the benchmark track at Veyron speeds.

I went online for some racing with Forza last night, it was pretty good, although I got pwnd pretty bad racing R1 cars. I looked at the drag races and noticed that everyone was racing those Datsun cars, then checked on the internet and it seems that they just dominate drag races now. Are they a part of DLC?\

I have one of those datsuns. I suppose they're pretty quick if you convert them to 4wd, but for me RWD is much more fun.

Ever keen to keep up with current gaming trends, I've just started playing through the first Mass Effect game. I've put in about five hours so far and its one of the most enjoyable games I've played since Deus Ex. Not bad for £6.

I spunked a load of money buying an audi R8 just so I could put some graphics on it, then yesterday won an audi R8, one of the annoying things for me about forza is I'm never sure which cars I'm going to win, so whether it's a waste of money to buy cars that you just fancy. Or should you just not buy cars unless you absolutely have to in order to enter and win a race.
Anyway I did the graphics and loaded them up, priced them at $20,000 a pop and sold a few so I got some money back which felt like a result.
Also I bought the datsun and a tuning setup from the storefront and spunked a load of money on that too.

Still playing though Forza3, enjoying it, especially after discovering the downhill stage tracks, which I'm currently driving a little fiat abarth around on. Unlocked the Bugatti, and thought it would be the nuts since I watched an episode of TopGear where Clarkson was driving one, turns out in Forza it doesn't steer - bought a tuning setup for 10,000, applied it to the car for 157,000 and it still doesn't steer, looks good though. Getting a taste for buying cars, buying tuning, stickering and painting cars, but now only have 15,000 left...

Had an opportunity at the weekend to play on Gran Turismo 5 on a Sony stand at Le Mans. It was the full modern Sarthe track complete with chicanes, with the 2007 Ferrari Formula 1 car as featured in Gran Turismo prologue.
There were no controller stands, only sit-in booths with steering wheels and pedals, so I didn't get an impression of how it would play with the standard controller, but with the steering wheel and pedals it all seemed very tight, and played exactly how you would expect. Blasting down Mulsanne at 200mph, the feedback on the steering wheel is almost too much to handle, giving a sense of having to wrestle the car across the bumps while it's trying to buck itself off the track. Through the corners the driving felt solid and predictable. It's a shame that I was only able to choose the F1 car, as a sportscar would have given a better impression of the game. I did see other stands with the peugeot 908 HDI but I wasn't able to get a go on those.
It all looked very promising with the graphics seeming almost photo-realistic, as we've come to expect. Reading between the lines, it looks like Sony may be pushing to finally get this game on the shelves, with a November release date having been announced at E3 for North America. Though you can take that promise as seriously as you like..

The Logitech Gran Turismo one. I forget the name. Similar to the one I have at the moment, but with a few extra auxiliary controls (adds in some selector wheels to allow you to change things like traction control settings and stuff on the fly)
It didn't have an H pattern shifter or a clutch pedal like the G25, but I hear the game will have support for that as well.

I'm playing Vancouver 2010 (Winter Olympics game) on PS3. It's not a very good game in a lot of ways, but it was cheap and totally worth it for the luge and the stupid challenges, such as snowboardcross with reversed controls. No curling, sadly.

You left out the bit about her weapon getting bigger though. Clearly improved wrist-strength and stamina were the tradeoffs for losing any semblance of protective clothing.

I've finally gotten a new Xbox and am back onto finishing my insanity playthrough for Mass Effect 2. Feels fantastic to be back playing it - back to that sense of shaking your head and saying "this is awesome" to anybody that'll listen. Started on the Overlord DLC that was released while I was out of commission, and it's just marvellous. The break has clearly done me some good in terms of appreciating it, because I now think it may be the best game I've ever played.
It's the way everything is brilliant. You had to forgive alot in the first game - the combat was a bit spongy, the Mako was a nightmare, the graphics were a bit wobbly - but this game just feels so right. The fights are exciting, I still get wowed by the look of the thing, the dialogue is superb. It's just amazing. AMAZING! I've no idea why CiH hates this franchise so much.
