I guess the short answer is our hosts didn’t pay their bills. They went off and when they went off we went off too.
Three days with no word, and although Sabian and a few others who also rent space from our host received emails with varying excuses as to why the servers suddenly went offline we as yet have not.
So, what did we do ?
Well, we took what was left from the last TMO fundraiser and we spent it plus a chunk of our own cash on a new, more reliable host. We were about to renew with our old host anyway and as for a few days it seemed like they’d done a runner we went ahead and got a new hosting deal for the next year of TMO !
Last year you all chipped in almost enough to keep the site running for two full years, and had we not been forced to move to a better server there would have just about been enough in the pot to cover our hosting bill for next year, but in order to improve the service, improve our uptime and generally make TMO a better place to post we’ve spent more than we had.
This does however mean that there is no backup cash in the TMO bank, so if you’ve not donated yet or if you have and you want to donate again or you’re a newbie who has not yet bought themselves a tag now would be a great time to do it !
We hope all the problems are now resolved and apart from moving servers sometime in the next 4 weeks TMO shouldn’t be going offline again for quite a while..
Those who host with us will be getting emails detailing all they need to take care off for the move.

Evening Darryn, just wondering whether I make out the cheque to 'Femke Engelse' as with the Paypal thing or to you?
Glad you've managed to sort out a new host, sounds like the last lot have acted like a right bunch of cowboys.
Oh and if there's anything else that's easy to post that you want sending with the cheque let me know, I remember you saying before about things you can't get in clog-land.

Ah, yes, you see I had the funds resting in my account until just such a situation might arise.

Thanks for the continued support guys and girls, This new host looks 'stable' so we should be alright.
That said, this is the first large glitch we've had with our current host, had they emailed and told me what was going on I'd not be moving servers, but 3 days with no word forced my hand...
Ah well, I just hope there's no hard feelings...

Thanks to all who have either paypaled, chequed, sent Nik Naks (Physic, you are a GOD! - Cheers for Becketts prez too) and generally have pledged support.
We're going to have to shut up shop in a week or so for a full 48hours, I'll time it so the site will go offline on a Friday night and then back online on Sunday morning if the DNS population works correctly..
