ˇ Bomb on Underground, union says ˇ Witness saw 'bodies everywhere' ˇ Tube network shut down

Many people were hurt today in a "major incident" on the London Underground as an apparent power surge caused at least two explosions, wounded commuters, and plunged London's transport network into chaos. Union officials said their sources had told them there had been at least one explosive device on the Underground. A Sky News producer who was evacuated from Kings Cross and was walking towards Russell Square also reported seeing an explosion on a bus. He said the blast was caused by a bomb, and said people with "blood injuries" emerged from the bus. Scotland Yard could not immediately confirm the report.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- British Transport police said several power surges had caused explosions across the network at Aldgate, Old Street, Kings Cross, Russell Square and Edgware Road. Emergency services crews attended wounded passengers outside Aldgate station, and there were reports of passengers covered in soot emerging from King's Cross. Travellers emerged from tunnels covered in blood. Eyewitnesses reported "multiple casualties" at Liverpool Street. One witness who had been in a train at the time of the explosions reported seeing "bodies everywhere" in the carriages and limbs lying in on the floor. Emergency services reported several injuries. Scotland Yard declared the emergency a "major incident".
The incidents caused a complete shutdown of the London Underground system, which is thought to be unprecedented. LU confirmed the incidents had been caused by "something to do with the power supply".
A British Transport police spokesman said that two trains remain stuck in tunnels at Edgware Road, but it is not known if they have collided or if passengers remain onboard.
"It's difficult to know exactly what is going on at the moment," he said. "The initial report came from Liverpool Street, but there are incidents occurring across the network."
He said that officers have been sent into the network to assist with rescue operations.
"Officers are working at tunnel and platform level to help get people out and to help find out what has happened," he said.
Anyone who's in London today - take care... hope you're okay.

Bit out of range round these parts. I'm in Macclesfield. There was a mention on Classic FM just now, but no one's said anything about a bus exploding, just the Tube power failure.

In case you still haven't got through, I was in London about half an hour ago and couldn't make any calls because of congestion/signal failure.
On my way home - I thankfully decided not to attempt a bus trip from London Bridge to Hammersmith - a women gleefully announced to me on the train "It's terrorists annoyed about the Olympics, isn't it exciting!" Umm...no.

Someone on ITV has said that this was a terrorist attack meant to cause maximum disruption, the plan seems to have been to get people off the tubes, guards down, onto buses and then strike there.

Do you remember that episode of Spooks where they thought London was under terrorist attack, but it was all a clever training ruse by their boss? I don't think our acting Head of Dept would have put in this much effort.
I don't like emailing all my mates who work in London to ask if they are ok (alive).

Ech. Phones being down is maddening: I can't get through to my mates that moved to London Bridge 2 days ago.
So many conflicting reports though. Our office is weird at the moment. About a third are flapping and panicking, another batch are trying to figure out whether they have to go to a meeting in the City, still, and the rest seem almost oblivious.

Mobiles always fuck up at times like this. Try Email or work landline.

Glad you got hold of Jess Bandy, I left her a VM earlier. I walked into work, spoke to Mikee a while ago, he was ok, got evacuated from tube station, was on bus to work when I spoke to him last. I just got to the office (on Moorgate) and we have now been told that we are not allowed to leave the building until further notice. Fucking scary shit. Our phones aren't working either... can't get hold of my little sister
