No no, I'm not trading in my sister, I just wondered if any of you lovely people could advise me where to get a good, cheap second-hand amp from (in London or online) and what brands you would recommend. I've had some top-notch musical equipment advice from you in the past so my hopes are high. Thanks all in anticipation

OR is it just an Amp you want ? (for playing music rather than an instrument) I have a lovely old 70's Sony Amp that oozes warm sexy tones and you can pick them up for about a tenner on ebay..

I used to have an old Sony amp from the 70s, and that was really good. In fact, in 30 years of use (it usde to belong to my dad) the only thing that ever went wrong was the bulb went behind the FM receiver display. It's a pointed contrast to the Rotel one I use at the moment, which likes to blow a fuse every six months or so.
What happened with Sony? They used to make stuff that was - you know - good, rather than just stylish landfill.

Yes, sorry an amp for my stereo so I can set up my decks again and practice before an event I'm organising in a couple of weeks time - I wanna play some vinyl like old skool djs not just use cds and ipods like modern ones!
I like the sound of a sexy 70s Sony amp for a tenner on ebay - thats right up my street!

A second hand seventies amp by sony or NAD or someone is definitely your best bet, because most modern budget amplifiers don't have phono in sockets, and won't adequately amplify a record player. At least that's my experience of it. What speakers are you using? If you're not planning on using anything massively hefty, this amp might suit your purpose.

Unlikely Omikin - the Commando was a later model built after I left. Now if it was a BLX-80 then maybe I did.
Incidentally that was the most mind-numbing, soul destroying job I have had in my entire life. Closest I ever came to a mental episode through complete and utter boredom - I had to walk away.

Watch out Uber, the postage on that amp is 15 quid and bids are now 15 quid so that's at least 30 odd for an amp you can probably find in London for 20 quid..
Pop along to Richer Sounds, there's loads of them in London, you could buy a Acoustic Solutions SP101 (Stereo Amplifier) there for under 60 quid.

Yeah I saw it was 15 quid postage, I was going to do a max bid of £25 but if you think I can get one from Richer Sounds I may well just go to London Bridge and get it from there.
I love having TMO boys as surrogate boyfriends when it comes to this kind of advice!

Yeah, but... when I come to design my new transmission line cabs, you'll be there for me, right?
