Deforestation has probably taken his original home, forcing him out into the modern world. It must be tough to get a job without a birth certificate and a National Insurance Number, and when your main reference is a singing bear.

To Whom It May Concern
I met Mowgli in 1967 in my capacity of King of the Swingers and Jungle VIP. As I told him at the time, despite my significant achievements and status I was deeply impressed by his potential as man-cub. Specifically, Mowgli struck me as a very mature young man who understood the secret of fire, and he showed real promise as a team player by sharing his experiences of "man's red flower".
