I've been reading whole load of different stuff recently so I can do you a list of anything decent out of that when I get home if you fancy it? Off the top of my head though you really should read the Transmetropolitan stuff if you haven't already because it's fucking genius. I also really love the Lucifer comics but that might be affected by whether you enjoyed Sandman or not as it's a spin-off from that, although I think it rises above Sandman and it's not Gaiman that writes it. Oh, and Garth Ennis' Preacher series was pretty sweet as well.

Another vote for Morrison's Seven Soldiers, the first volume is out in paperback, it's presented chronologically as the release dates of the titles are staggered with the fates of the seven soldiers being drawn together in the final few issues. Makes it a bit of a bugger to collect, so the tpbs are perfect. Warren Ellis' Ultimate run is drawing to its terrifying conclusion. Following Ultimate Nightmare and Ultimate Secret is the Eath's final confrontation with Galactus in Ultimate Extinction. Other superhero thrills are to be had with the House of M storyline which spins an alternate reality tale from the Scarlet Witch's nervous breakdown. The knock-on effect of the House of M arc's conclusion is the near extinction of mutantkind. 198 has picked up the ball and is running quite confidently towards a touchdown with this particular storyline.
Finally, the masketeers have started collecting Brian Michael Bendis' Ultimate Spiderman paperbacks and I've been reading and re-reading them. Fresh, funny, touching and exhilirating, I highly recommend these.

I'm curently enjoying "The Walking Dead" (Robert Kirkman / Tony Moore) published by Image. It's a sort of post-zombie-apocalypse-ordinary-people-surviving sort of thing.

The artwork inside the comic book isn't quite so uniformly beautiful, some of it is actually quite sketchy, but it's great to see...
SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Zombie Captain America getting the top of his head sheared off with his own shield. Zombie Hulk biting Silver Surfer's head off. Evil Zombie Giant Man, Hank Pym, slicing bits off a drugged Black Panther, keeping him as fresh food. Marvel Zombies is a barrel of laughs. And Galactus has just shown up here, too!
