I dunno. Didn't he have gigs booked in London later this year? Seems unlikely that someone in the final stages of HIV-related illness would be fixing to head out on tour.

I took the kids to school this morning and there were 8 & 9 year old children talking about Michael Jackson's death (and not just in a "thank God we're safe now" sort of way either).
His last proper record came out in 1987, FFS. He must count as the greatest master of publicity in history. To basically do nothing of any value whatsoever for over twenty years and still be permanently in the media and familiar to all age groups is quite impressive. If you're impressed by that kind of shit.

Well despite what many think of Michael Jackson and particularly his private life you have to admit he was immensely talented and very musically adept.
You don't see that written about Gary Glitter, or Jonathan King, for example. Their music (for what it was worth - and it was cool enough to be sampled by Oasis, for example) has been put completely to one side.
I think Michael Jackson's music was generic Disco-based fudge, backed up with some memorable videos and dance moves. And released in the 1980s. How he's managed to keep that kind of adoration going is beyond me. Is it some kind of brainwashing technique?

Not final stages Thorn but if his immune system was screwed and his body weakened as a result of an underlying infection then heart failure might styill be what killed him, but the underlying cause might go a bit deeper..

Unless there's some elaborate scam at play here, he sells out 50 shows in the UK, fakes his death and then takes the money and runs off to Disneyland...
