Well, it's beautifully sunny, and Otley Chevin (a big hill ridge) is all aglow with lush greens and vibrant purples. The ducks were splashing around merrily on the River Wharfe just now, and er, somewhere I'm sure some Yorkshire folk are settling down to a carefree morning reading a graphic novel.

This is true. I recently read the Heroes Reborn: Iron Man graphic novel and every panel was like Jim Lee was squatting over the bed and taking a shit into my face. I read Iron Man: Execute Programme after that, and it was much more gooder.
100 Bullets, though... wow. I fucking love that comic. Book 11 is out at the end of this month, although a few people I know are holding off until the whole arc is published, just because the wait between editions is too agonising. As one friend put it: "Yeah, so when the new book comes out you'll be happy for maybe a day, but then it's just eight more months of misery." It's fucking brilliant though. It was kovacs who first recommended it to me, and then I recommended it back to him and he was all like "What is this... this fucking shit you've recommended to me?" which seemed a bit unfair.

Anyway, back on topic, someone should tell me where to start with the Japanese graphic novels, when I've finished this. It must include the following tick-list items:

Can I use this thread to post this here: an online translation forum I subscribe to has a job going that reads as follows:
quote:xxxx is looking for online chat system testers in UK English.
Candidates must be willing to type rather offensive words into an online chat system and test to make sure those words do not filter through the system and are blocked. Testers must be very creative with colloquial phrasing and create combinations of words that may not seem like offensive words unless you are using them in a certain context.
Native speaker required No specific skills necessary $15/hr for 180 hours of work
If anyone is interested in getting paid for creative swearing, I can supply more details.

Any company that will pay $15 an hour to think up phrases like "cunt-plunger" is alright with me.
I remember walking into the office a few years ago only to hear our CEO shouting "Dick-face, dick-head, cock-sucker, cock-licker, fuck-face, motherfucker, donkey-fucker..." as he tried to complete the swear filter for a new user comments system.

I'm reading some manga at the moment called 'Death Note'. It's kind of shit. I got a couple, and I doubt I'll get any more.
Misc - check out Uzumaki. That's pretty sweet. Not particularly weighty, but it'll keep you turning pages.
I haven't read any proper ero/guro books, but if you poke around on gurochan.net, people sometimes upload some unbelievably depraved and misogynist material in pdf format. It's worth seeing once, simply because it's so staggeringly horrible.

I think the key to succeeding in this job is this bit: "combinations of words that may not seem like offensive words unless you are using them in a certain context".

You might want to take a look at the online comics at Image. To get an idea of what's out there, they've got online issues of Fell, Walking Dead, Phonogram, Elephantmen, Casanova, Godland and Death Jr. No freebie of Gutsville, yet. It is getting a second printing of issue #1, though. Jump aboard now! Here's a review
