Just booked a short break in Devon/Dorset for next week. Staying in Seaton and spending 3 days looking for fossils on the Jurassic coast and then submerging myself in crab and cider in the evenings!

What's making you go 'Woot!'?

Lots of things. My band are now a 5 piece with a live drummer playing a mix of electronic samples and live percussion. I'm hoping to play a t-shirt company launch. I'm penning up ideas to release a sampler of several bands for my promotions company cum label. My boss is away for two days and I'm more productive. I'm very proud of my girlfriend for working really hard towards something she wants and she's very nearly done. A bundle of woot.

On the Woot! tip, I just wandered round the corner to the hardware shop and bought a geologist's pick (IRL brick hammer) and a handy-dandy archaeologist's trowel (IRL pointing trowel).

Doesn't that mean that you lose both homes? (Obviously you won't be worried about one of them, but presumeably you're quite fond of the new one?)

For me, it's the prospect that in only a few months, we'll be off to California. This wouldn't be a 'woot' moment except that I'm at Logan airport right now and it's not making me regret leaving Boston in the least. It's almost certainly unfair to condemn a city for its airport, but still...

Someone should make a film set in California. Why don't Americans ever do that?

I'm getting my haircut by a hairdresser to the celebs on Thursday. Very exciting stuff. I'm hoping I get given wine while having my haircut and possibly a blowjob.

It does seem strange doesn't it.

Step 1 - Spend $70,000 on credit cards and loans to buy car and build new house
Step 2 - Declare Bankruptcy but keep car and house
Step 3 - Profit

Yeah, it's sort of like 'Hi, I'd like to borrow some money please and not pay it back'

'I don't know, sir you get to keep the things you buy and not give them back'

'Hmmmm....ok then [Frown] '

I'm wootin' for the following reasons:

I've almost finished the Bassonator - a two string bass guitar version of the much fabled Avonator. The strings are tuned an octave apart and a motor sits between them, fapping them alternately with a strip of plastic. A speed control varies the sound from a slow 60 rpm pling-plong-pling-plong right up to a 6,000 rpm drone which sounds more like it's being played with a bow. It has an ignition key to start it, and a full size front panel made from the side of an old PC case, with the paint stripped off to reveal a rather tasty brushed metal finish. Took it along to rehearsal on Sunday and nobody got hurt. But other than that, all was good.

[Wink]

Just got back from the dentalist, who told me nothing needed to be done other than a minute's worth of painless electro-scraping.

[Smile]

Jesus fuck. I had no idea that if I didn't want to pay off my debts I just declared myself bankrupt and all that happens is I won't be able to borrow some money for a few years. I thought they'd look at my sallary and be all like "You're not bankrupt, you can afford to pay off at least most of what you owe!" but apparently not.

I need to get on the blower quick sharp!

Actually, thinking about it, I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with the shame of knowing I'd basically failed to manage my own financial affairs to the point where I have to grovellingly go and tell my creditors that i've put myself into a situation where I'm completely unable to meet the financial commitments I've made for myself.

Edit - obviously this situation could only be worse if I'd been spending a lot of time on the internet boasting that I earn loads and loads of money, and then had to admit that I'd managed to fuck it all up. That'd be some seriously humbling shit wouldn't it.

How can someone earning $120,000 or whatever ralph is on these days be allowed to declare bankruptcy? It wouldn't happen over here and that is why England is in such a good financial situation.

Ummmmm. Well, it wouldn't happen here but we're still in a rubbish financial situation, but it's mostly ralph's fault.

I feel pretty stupid about doing loads of overtime a few years back and actually paying off my debts. That was money I could have spent on trinkets.

So, y'know, woot to not being bankrupt I guess! I was looking at my overdraft earlier while tugging at my collar and explaiming "erk!" but this thought has really made me feel better. Y'know, that despite the fact I may owe a fair bit of money, and that sometimes it's a bit of a struggle to afford the things I want, I've never over-stretched myself to the point where i've had to declare myself bankrupt.

^^ That's a good WOOT. There's a particularly sweet kind of schadenfreude in being financially better off than people who earn way more money than you. My crummy salary probably wouldn't pay ralph's monthly petrol bill, but I'm only £300 in debt (waves at new guitar) and I'm not bankrupt. Sweet!

It's called Chapter 7 in Massachusetts. The downside to it is that it shows up on my credit report for 10 years, so I'm very likely not to be able to get credit in that timeframe. And it's not like I borrowed the money to go on vacations or buy video games. My wife was quite ill and we needed shelter ffs.

Nice work. Now you need to buy yourself some sweatbands and you're properly ready to rock Mark Knopfler style

Call me when you can play Sultans of Schwing. My old band used to crack that one out at every gig. All four of them, in fact...

Towelling headbands FTW! [Cool]
