I'm not about to return here, so don't worry, but I was searching my old files, looking to see if I had stored some truly dreadful childhood crisis poems for my therapist - yes, I have a therapist and yes, I can hear the hoots of derision and the odd, "Not before time" from you (and a few expletives) - when I came across this from jonesey999.

I know the man loathed me, but he was the best of all the really good writers on here. Him, Thorn nest (pretty close call)and then Ben who lacked the light touch at times; but to be honest there are a few others whose writing was a pleasure to read.

Anyway, does anyone remember this? It's the only thing of his I saved, which is a pity.

quote:
At dawn the billboard looms in black and white
In the wild purple of the morning light.
Smouldering through spouts of drifting smoke that shroud
The menacing black letters and, one by one,
Suits creep and topple forward to the chain
The cold wire heaves and lifts. Then, clumsily bowed
With phones, bottles and brollies and man bag gear
They jostle and climb to meet immovable pain
Bibs of blue, shuttered faces, "can't go here."
They leave apartments, going over the top
While time ticks frank and busy on their wrists.
And hope, with furtive eyes and flailing fists
Flounders on road. O Jesus make it stop!

London Underground strike, August 2007

Maybe you should start a short (very short) story competition here and make it as daft as you can. Spoof Royal wedding stories anyone?

My best to you all. I hope things are going to well for you. Happy days folks! See you in another two years or so, perhaps. [Smile]

To be fair I think I ripped that off from Vidal Sassoon, Gary Wilmot or Michael Owen; I forget which. Furthermore, I was only the 11th best writer on TMO (Second best breakdancer in Felixstowe mind) but that's sweet of you all the Sam. And I didn't loathe you, you just knew how to push my buttons. I hope the therapy is proving useful.

Love Jonesy.

I imagine this revelation catapaults me to the top of Sam's list.

I feel like an athlete being bumped up the gold because someone failed a piss test, but rather than bleating "I'd rather have silver than win under these circumstances", I'm happy to accept victory at any cost.

"bumped up the gold". I think I'll leave that, rather than go in and edit.
