So there I am, just a week or so ago reconsidering my entire photographic career - its been really dormant of late, the one oppurtunity I had to photograph Motorhead last week I passed on, and apart from fulfilling a promise this weekend to a dear friend of mine, my little D100 is not getting much use.
Then Nikon go and fill me with lust again

So suddenly I am rethinking it all - I mean I do love photography, and every penny I have invested in it whilst has not made any financial returns, the opputunities and experiences it has brought me over the last 3 years are beyond compare. So I'm buying another camera.

Now I could use my paltry savings, sell off my D100 with one lens and hopefully make up most of the money (€2000) but I'm also thinking 2 bodies, improve the glass with a nice 80-200, and I'll be a bitch in the pit with all the firepower I need to hopefully get the shots to make me a daddy at this.

So suddenly I need €3,500 - I have I guess 500 in savings, but am up to the hilt with the bank to borrow more - so I guess I need to clear some stuff out, but my question is do you think anyone would really be interested in the following crap?

Loaded Magazines dating back to 1994 (not complete, but about 100 issues)

Metallica CD's - I have about 60 of these (only 3 bootlegs - all the rest are official Single releases, Promos and the like - some are worth a few quid)

Various other CDs I suppose I can get shot of - things like Manics "Generation Terrorists" on picture disk, Floyd Box Sets and the like.

Minidisc portable and component unit - do people still use these?

Some Russian Army kit (Map Case, Cap, Epilets)

Some old Yamaha Motorcycle stuff (inlcuding some exclusive factory team gear), My Old Bike Leathers which are virtually unused, Jamie Whitham Arai Helmet, Triumph Motorcycle bits.

Anyone got any good advice on approaching a clearout like this? I guess ebay is the way to go if you put a nice reserve on anything, but some of the stuff I have no idea of value of - its probably all tut and worth nowt, but it might be a good start.

Else anyone got a good idea for earning a load of cash in a short while that I could do? Daddy needs a new camera.

How about selling prints of your pictures to people who want funky and unique shots of their favourite bands for their bedroom walls.

Fawn's got a point. Have a walk along Bayswater Rd or Piccadilly at the weekend and look at some of the eye-searingly awful dross that punters are prepared to buy. WHy don't you blow up some of your prints to A1 or A0, stick them in a nice frame and charge £300 a pop for them?

Try solarising some of them, if you're enlarging them yourself. People seem to like that. It's arty.

You could always stay sober and not go to the pub for a year.

Say 7 beers a night at the pub (small beers) at 2.25 Euro a beer* (*based on binge drinking Fridays)

15.75 a night

110.25 a week

463.05 a month (4.2 weeks)

5556.60 a year

Sorted, miserable but sorted.

Hey why not start a portfolio on www.istockphoto.com?

You can load up shots and providing they get approved you make between 20cents and a dollar per download. Not much I know but if you get the right shots you can get like a 1000 downloads and the money just keeps building up until you want to convert it into your paypal account and blow it all guilt free on camera equipment.

I loaded up about 12 of my vector graphics and am now gettting about 100 downloads a month. I've got about $180 in my istock account.

Might be good for you as I've seen some of your shots and I'm sure you would get approval pretty easy - although istock are a lot more picky nowdays than they used to be when they started (I've not yet managed to get any of my digital pictures approved).

I was thinking of you the other day when I needed a picture of a Hawk with a really clear shot of it's eyes and I remember you (I think) showing a fantastic shot on here.

There's some really great contributors on that site like abu, lisegagne who must be making some serious $$ but also there's people with just a few good shots making a bit of extra cash and having an outlet for their photography too.

Note: For some reason the istock link isn't working for me today.

ETA: link definately not working for me

I have a hat signed by ex-motorcycling now paraplegic Wayne Rainey apologising for me having to get all his mail while I worked at Yamaha.

(not really, it is signed by him and he did apologise, but no I don't know why I lied - why should I prove my lameness when my posts do that so well for me?)

That's 'Original' Spiderman Jonesy, what condition is it in ?

I reckon you could shift that for a few bob.

I've got the centre aisle seats (3 joined) of an old 1970's aeroplane (Fokker 50 is my best guess) complete with tables on the back and pockets for the sick bags which we don't need and don't have room for.

Wanting a new camera is certainly something I can understand (though you can justify the expense much more readily than I can).

As for selling stuff, they have a craig's list in your area, that's always a good place to go.

I know a gal who just sold three prints she had up at a local cafe for $900 - perhaps try that?

As far as listing art/photography online, art.com has an open studio, that may be worth a try.

You can also try teaching an online or local college photography course.

I don't know about stock photography being that lucrative. I've just had my first image accepted, but it is one of those cheapy places, so I doubt I'll make much. I have made about $30 selling photo borders on my site though, lol.

Good luck!

ETA: I've just read the review on that camera (drool). I'm a Canon girl right now and the Canon equivalent (the 5D) is way out of my league [Frown] It's all I can do to hope for a 20D.

Drivel, it says:
1 layer b/w gradient
dup as overlay
dup brown gradient as soft light

(this is one of my methods for b&w conversions).

They're instructions on how to create the image you're seeing, thereby opening a perilous vortex of temporal instability in which it can't be determined which came first.

Or maybe they're just random scratchpad notes. We won't know for sure until the universe implodes, and then who'll be sorry.

Erm, mate... I'm most probably going state side in a few weeks and I can get it there for €1,400 and bring it back with me and meet you at Waterloo or summat to hand deliver it... I'd have to open it and post the box back to myself though so I don't stung for duty...

It's just an idea, yell if you want...

Mate that's a kind offer, but I just had a sniff they are going for 1340 in Switzerland so I may well go down there and pick one up.
