There's a big hoohah about some mums bad-mouthing a childcare guru on a site called Mumsnet. Mrs. Mask is a regular contributor to said website and the defamation seems pretty mild to me.

What do we think about internet censorship? What do we know about it? I thought you were more or less safe to call anyone you fancied a **** on the web...
Also...
Who might we have defamed or libelled in the past..? +GuLp!+
(And who should we defame and/or libel in the future?)

Fucking fat, lard-arse, cum-guzzling slut.
quote:Lawyers for Ford wrote to Mumsnet’s service provider DSC last month demanding the site be "disabled with immediate effect". They cited a series of attacks including one posting on a discussion board dated July 21, in which Ford is accused of strapping "babies to rockets and firing them into south Lebanon".
lol.
quote:Ford, whose prescriptive approach to parenting has helped her sell millions of books despite her being childless,
Unsurprising that she's childless, but surprising that she claims to be an expert in the field. That's like me making a small fortune writing 'Improve Your Snooker' books without actually having played the game. On the other hand, if the market absorbs and respects her work, then she's obviously on to a winner.
I can't see others acting in the same way as Gina Ford. Her toys-out-of-the-pram reaction is probably more down to insecurity and paranoia. Which is understandable, given the evidence displayed in recent photographs taken of her.

As a member of Contentedbaby.com, you will have exclusive access to information, articles and top tips on the most important parenting issues. Each week, my terrific panel of experts and I will respond to members’ most common concerns on Feeding, Sleeping and Development; we already have an archive of over 1200 questions and answers. In addition, you will have the opportunity to communicate with many other like-minded parents through the message boards, which are lively, informative and a safe environment in which members can share experiences, form friendships and gain support.
Surely you don't have to be a parent to contribute to her message boards...

Is it true that her book Potty Training In One Week details a method involving funnel based force-feeding, a large capacity potty and a roll of duck tape?

I was typing away like a man possessed and looked back at what I had written. It was bollocks. But rather than delete it, I'll allow you to read my rambling, shambling nonsense talk anyway:
quote:It's a tough call isn't it? Copyright laws dictate that Thorns first three chapters of his noville are copyrighted to him, simply because he penned (typed hacksherly) them. If someone were to rip him off, then he'd definately have a case to sue, seeing as he'd also have a log of when he uploaded the details. So placing information, whether it be creative writing, artwork, music, photography etc into the public domain certainly binds you in a way loaning the content to someone wouldn't. It's stored online. Archived even. So the main problem I think is defining which domain it is placed in and the type of information it is.
If you were to make a joke about Michael Jackson, down the pub with your mates, then it would be to a select audience. Whereas, if you were flying around the Neverland ranch in a helicopter shouting 'WRONGUUN, WRONGUUN!' no doubt he might have the grounds to sue for slander. If you were to chat via MSN about the ex getting custody of the dog in comparison to say...blogging it to 10,000 loyal readers, then you are putting something not only into the public domain, but one that content can be searched upon. The chances of your comments reaching a target audience looking specifically for breakup stories is increased. A personal attack on someone is something that can be sought out too.
The trouble with bulletin boards, is that the content can rocket right to the top of a google search depending on the keywords enetered. So in the off-chance you decide to google yourself and defamatory content comes up in your search, you might have to consider that rather than looking at the source of the content and pointing the finger, but actually wondering whether it's a reflection on yourself. If you happen to be a fat twat, so be it....
Fucking hell, what am I on about? I would lie down if I could get away with it.

Yes. Yes, it is. Her magnum opus, IMHO, was her book on getting your baby to sleep through the night Arbeit Macht Schlaf.

This MumsNet place sounds awful. What I saw of Handbag was enough to convince me that motherhood brings out the worst in women: competitiveness, snideness, Olympic level mountaineering to the moral Everest etc.
It is an interesting quandry though. Most threads about the controversial suspension of Kieran Fallon are modded off the BBC Horseracing board, through knee-jerk paranoia about potential libel- but that is a high profile site. Libel law must be really intriguing to work in; I guess Have I Got News For You created a lot of thesis fodder for law students. What about guests on Room 101 saying such and such is shit? I guess they are steered away from direct hits like "Will Young is shit" and encouraged to rant about generic things like aeroplane food and reality TV shows.

When I was doing a course on journalism law, we were told that generally you were a bit safer with comedy, but mainly because people didn't want to look like they couldn't take a joke, so they tend to just ignore it. The exception to this is Private Eye, where they keep getting taken to court. Probably because they hit a lot harder.
EYA: that may be bullcrap, though. The woman doing the course was a journalist, not a lawyer, so it was pretty much second hand information. And she was an idiot.

I think I know the person what wrote that.
Was it Barry, logging in as his wife one day?

Something about that screams out to be placed into a 2-by-2 Warhol-like layout, complete with Marilyn-like color treatment. But I don't have time.

I am having to physically restarin myself from responding to some of the comments being made here. I am repeating as if it were a mantra: remember what you said to zygote the other day, remember what you said to zygote the other day, reme...
You know, about it being a 'step away from that joke' sort of thing.
Please everyone tell me you were joking.
(pause)
You were! Oh good! My faith in you all is restored.
As to censorship on the net. Yes, of course. Kids use it and there's a lot out there we wouldn't want our kids/kiddie relatives accessing or having suggested to them. Huh!

I'd like to add that I once received a Gina Ford book as a secret santa gift on another forum. The sender knew my views on child rearing, so she thought it would be funny to send me a book that teaches the exact opposite of what I believe. It's been well over a year and I'm still quite . I wish Gina Ford nothing but ill will.
