David Calamity James made a comment that seems to have become a news story about performance related pay - so...

1) Would this work in football? A basic wage ceiling and then bonuses for performance?

2) Have you ever done a PRP job?

3) How rich/poor would you be based on performance at the moment?

I'd love to see it but I can imagine it might not engender great team spirit. "Why the fuck didn't you pass to me? My children are starving."

I loaded containers with various crap - from tinned beans to lawnmowers - and got paid by the container. I think we did work harder than we would if we were paid a flat rate but we (there were two in each container) would happily shaft the others any way we could to get the lawnmowers (big boxes, not very heavy, fill up the container extremely quickly = easy money) rather than the tinned food - (small boxes, heavy, fiddly finger bleeding fuckers = nightmare). So, yeah, again team spirit might be a problem. I guess it depends if there's a finite amount of money in the pot. If your working hard and doing well gives you the lion's share of the cash then I suppose PRP can breed resentment. Probably no more than, say, your hapless, useless boss earning much more than you when you know you carry the fucker every single day, mind.

Seeing as I'm still in my dressing gown (ha, I even poured water over my hair to answer the door to the postman to make out like, yeah, I just got out of the shower, I'm not just slobbing around in my dressing gown), hungover, I've wasted the entire morning writing a stupid skit for non-professional reasons, had a wank and am now hoping TMO will distract me enough to put off taking a shower for the next few hours, I'd say I make Stealgate look like Rockefeller.

I was once in charge of a document scanning department for a finance company and our task was to scan the two years worth of documents from before the scanning process existed. This went on for a while and then the management wanted to speed things up a bit and so get back to scanning the new stuff. To do this they took an average over the past month or so of how many batches that were done per person per day and worked out the relevant pay per batch and then paid the 4 staff by the batch for a month.

For those that were fairly with it and obviously wasted in such a menial task it was fantastic, I remember one person regularly putting down over 20 hours worth of work in a day (with time-and-a-half for all hours over 8) for actually working a 10 hour day. Most of the team earned a load of cash for that month except for one girl who was thick as pig shit and complained to me on a daily basis that she had to work 10 hours to get her basic 8 hours of pay. There's only so many ways you can dress up "Everyone else can do it, why the fuck can't you?" nicely.

I've never worked in a PRP environment though, unless you count profit share schemes which are sweet because who I work for at the moment makes several billion pounds of profit every year and the profit share has been guaranteed at 10% of salary for the next 3 years.
