As a mark of respect I suppose I shouldn't really post that actually. Hopefully someone will have read it though.

It was about someone I know who works for a completely different company to me. At that company they have a 'dress down day' on the last Friday of each month. But they just got an email saying there will be no dress down day tomorrow 'as a mark of respect for a colleague who has just died'.

And I was just mentioning that this guy (who no one at the company seems to have heard of) has had a bit of a bad week, because first he died and now everyone at that company is cursing him because he's stopped them from wearing their new shirts and jeans and trainers tomorrow.

It's terrible that they're doing that and, as you can all imagine, I certainly would join in with the cruel comments if I worked for that company.

Presumably the dead guy really hated dress down day, and the suspension of the custom is in honour of the fact he really wanted it abolished all together?

This reminds me of a time when I was working in an office and a "Flid" (because I can't spell) was starting work, and got a pre-intro announcement that ended with the hushed sentence "and she has small arms, just so you know". I bet if the women knew she would have been livig, desperate to just be accepted, but everyone looking at her with pity in their eyes, and long arms.

Tenuous I know, but that's what it reminded me of.

I wonder if everyone in that office unconsciously scrunched their arms up slightly so as not to draw attention to their long, slender, perfectly formed limbs

yeah if you had a t shirt or short sleaved top on you could fold your arm back on itself and tuck you hand / wrist back into your clothes - on first glance, you'd look like you had been born with thalidomide.

I like to imagine maybe someone arrived who missed the little warning, and came in waving to everyone "Hi, good morning!" waving their arm high in the air, while people cringe and try to mouth the words telling him there's a short-armed person in the office. He'd sweep his arm out, cupping his ear in an exaggerated gesture "come again? I can't hear you when you mouth words at me" and then maybe starts windmilling his arms around for no apparent reason.

While Stumpy looks on with bemusement.

I worked with a girl with tiny hands and foreshortened arms once. She seemed to draw attention to them a lot by repeatedly tucking her hair behind her ears and gesticulating frequently. Another colleague revealed she referred to her as You've Got To Hand It To Gemma.

What I object to is the colour of some of these wheelie bins and where they are left, in some areas outside all week in the front garden.
