Can't remember if I've linked to this before...

Massive list of albums and bootlegs from a Hispanic punk blog. Scroll down to the playlist (left of centre). Mahoosive list of bands. Some excellent stuff there.

Christ - loads of stuff I'd forgotten about there. Housemate of mine at university was really into a lot of this stuff. Screeching Weasel, The Humpers, The Descendents. I laughed when I saw Madball on that list: Such a shitty band. Just a thick-necked imbecile ranting tunelessly, humourlessly and thoughtlessly about politics and social issues over generic punk riffs. I mean, I know I've just described most New York hard-core there, but this was particularly bad.

I've never liked any NYHC, though. It's so po-faced. I keep wanting to say "It's too... angry", but that seems absurd. But it's kind of true. The singers always seem like they're permanently pissed off, and the rest of the band always seem like they're slightly nervous around the singer, as though if they say the wrong thing this paranoid tattoed meathead is suddenly going to kick off and start waving a broken bottle in their face. You see guys like Max Cavalera on stage, and they look like they're having fun. Guys like Freddy Madball though, always look like they're settling for doing the performance only because actually grabbing someone by the head and crushing their skull with their bare hands violates the conditions of their parole.

And the music is awful.
