I've been looking over the last couple of days for some software which will convincingly convert an swf movie clip to mpeg or avi or something else I can use on YouTube. Seems like it's impossible to find anything that will do it for FREE without sticking some rubbish watermark on it.

I don't suppose anyone here knows of a FREE way to do this? No one on the internet seems to know. I hate to think that open source and freeware has somehow by-passed this corner of the market.

p.s. I can send the swfs (2 of, combined size about 5meg) to anyone that happens to have such software. In return I can promise to make the vague promise to "buy you a pint" at some unlikely time in the vapourfuture.

I'll have a look when i get home to see if I have anything that can do this on UBUNTU.

You can get free software that records what is happening on your screen and outputs that as avi/mpeg I believe. Could you not just run something like that and record the SWF? Probably quite a dirty solution but it could work.

Nice one, ta.

Ironically, I made these clips using free screen-recording software, and the free version only outputs as swf. [Mad] Very nice quality and easy to use (Jing) but that limitation is a nuisance.

I've managed to do it with some free software which puts its logo in the top left of the video, which kind of looks ok, if a bit amateur. Uploading to YouTube now to see what it looks like on there.

Thanks for looking. As it happens, [*spams forum*]they don't look too bad on YouTube anyway in the end[*/spams forum*]. I've also provided links to the slightly better quality originals, though nothing in 3D at this stage I'm afraid.

Folks, is it correct to talk of "XML integration"?

I have a translation of a contract ("XML Integration Agreement for Product Promotion") dealing with this, like so, for instance:

quote:
That either through the WEBSITE or using the "XML integration" (eXtensible Markup Language) between systems, the COMPANY grants Travel Agencies the possibility of allowing end users to make direct payments in accommodation establishments, allowing the AGENCY to blah blah blah...
Or this, say:

quote:
Notwithstanding any other of its rights, the COMPANY reserves the right to deny access to said XML integration, to the COMPANY product and/or to cancel any booking, should the COMPANY (at its own discretion, and having first notified the AGENCY) deem that the AGENCY has failed to comply with the appropriate usage of the XML integration, the WEBSITE, or any of the terms of this agreement or with any applicable rules of law.
I know, it's gripping stuff. Does "the XML integration" in the first one sound correct? Most importantly (or it seems it, to me), should it just be XML integration, with no the? A lot of the contract makes stipulations about using "the XML integration and/or the WEBSITE" appropriately, and so on.

(For clarity, the contract is in Spanish, and the above bits are my translation)

I think both "the XML integration" and plain "XML integration" both sound fine, to be honest.

It sounds like they are referring to it as a service for exchanging data/information between non-compatable systems (which was always one of the big selling points of XML - that all these different systems would be able to process it).

So:

"The XML integration" - refers to the specific service offered by this company.

"XML integration" - refers to the general technology, as used by lots of people all over the place.

Both fine I would say. If you have to choose one then dropping "the" shouldn't do any harm.
