Looks quite pretty. But single speed and cantilever brakes are a bit.. interesting. it's quite a specialised setup really so whether it's good or not really depends on your requirements. If you're after a cool looking single speed, then it's probably quite good. Raleigh don't make the best bikes in the world. The quality isn't amazing. But they're alright for cheaper bikes.

Going by the description it's hard to tell if it's meant to get you around or just be trendy. (Does anyone actually call their bike a "beast"?) But it looks like it would work ok and probably be quite fun to ride. Hard to advise about the value, but it doesn't look completely extortionate. So, yeah, why not.

abby go here:
http://www.londonfgss.com/

that looks nice.
i dunno.
you can do all that yourself if you want. but if you want to buy them kiwicycles is good (hackney).
and gumtree often has single speeds up there.
really have a look on that website i put up. have an ask around if you can't find anything. and they sshould help you out a bit more.

right a quick look at that:
he's taken off the rear mech. left the original fittings on the brakes, taken the tires off the original wheels, put blue scwalbe blizzards on (tenner each), an 18t free wheel (less than a tenner) kept the outer ring from his chainring (i know this as mine is 52t as well). put new handlebars and grips on.

basically, it's nice, the wheels might not hold up to a long commute. you've got a decent gear ratio on there to get around, it's not fixed so you don't have to pedal all the time. and you've got new tires.

you could buy a similar priced bike off gumtree. if you want to make it "better", wheels and saddle.

there. how's that?

He actually wants you to assemble that yourself Abby, if you read. Can't you arrange to pick it up and cycle it back from Portsmouth?

Cool, cheers chaps. Mainly I just saw it and thought oh I want a new bike *now* but maybe I will hold off...not that I know enough about the techy stuff to know if Im getting anything good.

I don't want anything really fancy - just that has a good gear ratio, and wont fall apart. I just want to buy one rather than faffing about choosing components individually.

You think self assembly is bad then? I thought that might be fun! Unless I fuckup obviously.

Or maybe I will get drunk and buy that one anyway!

Bikes are easy to put together so long as you know what you're doing. Even if you don't know what you're doing, so long as there are no gears involved I don't see how you could go wrong really.

I think everything is easy so long as you know what you're doing really. I reckon splitting the atom is pretty simple if you know what you're doing. And you have an atom splitting lab. Which I don't.

Ok, for the benefit of CiH, I think putting a bike together isn't too much of a challenge so long as you know what a bike is, understand what shape it's meant to be when it's done, and have a basic grasp of using a spanner.

Don't forget that you need opposable thumbs. Abby might not have these and you could have upset her there.

i had the idea of buying a bike and converting it. it's easy. but the cost starts going up. well it does if you want nice wheels. and then a saddle. and then some of those funky handlebars, and then change the brakes.
by the time you've finished your giant lego set for grown ups all that is original of the bike is the frame.

My brother doesn't have any opposable thumbs, so I don’t think that kind of thing is very funny actually...etc.

Anyway…essentially if one wanted a single speed bike for about £200 with not too much effort involved, has that one got anything retardedly wrong with it? I am planning on popping down to that kiwicycles place tomorrow, but it looks like it might be aimed at real obsessive’s, and hence a bit pricey? Or a brand new one - they look a bit expensive as well. Shopping for shoes is much easier. [Confused]

I spent last night being unable to open my friend’s door to feed their cats while they are away, which prevented me impulse shopping, but was quite stressful. And made me dream of battle cats chasing me.
