I especially like:

Why not just call it the Nintendo WTF?

but, is anybody likely to be buying a wii? Anybody excited by the whole controller thing?

Definitely. Just imagine Soul Calibur III with the revolution controller... Or a jedi game... Salmon fishing... +gasp+

I don't tend to play console games that much, as I resent paying £40+ for a single (and often very short) game. But I am interested in Codename Revolution. Apparently it will be pretty cheap, and the types of games on offer would probably compliment traditional PC gaming genres. Plus, as Mask mentioned, a jedi game would be excellent.

Saying that, I'm also intrigued by the other end of the spectrum - the almighty PS3. Rumour has it that Sony are planning to launch it for roughly the same price as a standalone BluRay player. With its rumoured media centre functionality, this would make it a pretty easy way into HiDef, if I could afford one of those newfangled tellies to match. I guess it all depends what happens with the HD disc formats.

Or something.

Benway - have you read about Sony's new PS3 controller? They've gone back on the banana dildo concept design, in favour of a Dual Shock, with some kind of basic motion sensors instead of the rumble function. It sounds to me like Sony got a little scared by the Wii, but their solution doesn't seem to be anywhere close to Nintendo's.

Yeah I read it, and it could be interesting, but I doubt it'll be taking the Wii on. From what I can tell, it's not as clever.

Also - Final Fantasy coming out the for DS!

Some cracker screenshots coming from E3 on Gamespot. GT:HD looks amazing, as does Alone in the Dark 360.

The Wii is the only next gen console I'm the least bit interested in. There's absolutely nothing about the XBox or the PS3 that excites me, but everything I hear about the Wii (apart from the name) gets me excited like a little kid; in that way where I can't quite believe that one day I might really own one of these incredible machines. I'm really champing at the bit now, and I've never felt like that about a console before; normally I'll wait until they drop below the £50 second hand barrier and pick one up then, but this... I could see myself buying this on launch day. It looks fantastic.

The P3 is going to have to be mindblowing to compete with that. Someone was telling me that Sony wanted to hold back for a while....to create something pretty special to justify it's high price, but for example, The Blu-Ray Association were going to decline providing Sony with the technology if they didn't push the console like they promised. Annoyingly, this is one of my friends that doesn't read the internet, so finding some information on this is going to be a bit of a headfuck.

That's fantastic news about the Wii. The sooner they get it on the fucking shelves the better as my Gamecube's knacked. The only thing it will play at the moment is RE4, and then it takes ages to load between stages. I'd nearly reached Legend status on Tiger Woods 2005, too.

well, I wouldn't trust it. That's the first I've heard on a price other than some pundits speculating that it 'could be as low as $199'. No announcement has been made yet.

Posted by Fionnula the Cooler (Member # 453) on :

Wii games are gonna be fifty quid each? Surely not. These are just estimates, right? So when Nintendo confirm a £39.99 price point, the online retailers just drop the RRP, which is better than having to increase the RRP, because they'd have to honour the original (cheaper) prices at which thousands of people had already pre-ordered, thus losing money, right? Right? Not fifty quid each. Not fifty quid each. Not fifty quid each.

From what I've read, it will cost

¥25000 in Japan with one remote and no games.

Rumour has it that the US price will be $249 ($35 more than the Japanese price), but this is said to include Wii Sports and an additional remote. I expect this will translate to £149 for the same package in the UK, with games ranging from £20-£40, remotes at £20 and nunchucks at £10.

forumites who dabble in computer games might be alarmed to know that I dreamed I had a Wii last night, and it wasn't that great. I don't know what this means, or how seriously we sould take this warning, but I feel I should let you know. Then I was naked in a public place or something.

In fact, the negative vibes could be a result of the fire alarm going off all night. This isn't a normal fire alarm, but an industrial strength meltdown warning siren with a huge and complicated console. Wandering around my seemingly deserted building clutching a torch with this loud and frightening shrieking going on around me, I almost felt like a character out of my beloved Silent Hill (a computer game)

Some of the comments reviewers are making about the Wii controls are totally bewildering to me. There's been a few complaints that you might not be able to replace big movements with wrist flicks (basically completely the opposite criticism that the guy in that ign article mentions) For example, this, from a preview of Zelda on Gamespot:

quote:
We weren't too stoked initially when we heard that Twilight Princess, the long-awaited Zelda sequel, would be receiving a control overhaul to make it take greater advantage of the motion-sensing Wii controller. Swing the remote to swing your sword? Well, that just sounded like work. Sometimes you just want to mash on a button, right?

Well: no. Not right. What on earth kind of comment is that? Obviously no-one buying or playing a Wii is going to want to just mash a button, as that's precisely the point of the console. It's like complaining that games are too interactive. Sometimes you just want the story to unfold in front of you, right?

So I dunno. The gaming press don't seem to be out to shit on the Wii, exactly, but there does seem to be a lot of editorial about that seems to be a bit antsy that things are different. A lot of "well, playing with a motion sensor is a bit confusingly unusual, but I suppose you get used to it after a while". Like the control mechanism is this annoying quirk the console has, rather than it's whole reason for existing. Honestly, I get the impression that some games journalists would have been happier if Nintendo had just produced a GameCube 2 and competed directly against the other two conventional consoles.

Yeah, that's slightly alarming. I've been getting anxious about not getting one (clearly, I don't have enough genuine things to worry about at the moment). Octavia pre-ordered it, like, ages ago though. Besides which, if there is a fuck up she's likely to go stamp-y foot aggressive with the store manager. A pretty terrifying experience even if you're not on the receiving end of it. I can picture it now - me sucking my thumb, fighting back the tears and holding her hand while she demands that her little boy gets his christmas present.

I've also shelled out for an extra controller/nunchuck + zelda (£70!!). I'll probably get another game too, but I'm going to hang on for reviews to come through from the States. Red Steel looks alright, but then I've read that COD3 handles better, which might be the deciding factor on this machine.

Watching a 4 hour unboxing/preview marathon on Gamespot went some way to killing my anxiety. Then the relatively average scores for most of the launch titles helped a bit more.

The main thing that's keeping me going is that the TV I've got is perfectly suited to this machine:

quote:
A possible PC version of Gears of War has been confirmed by Epic Games, possibly featuring some bonus content not seen in the Xbox 360 version. However, with the PC port not taking place until after the Xbox 360 version's release (expected in late 2006), its likely that we won't see Gears on the PC until 2007.

I'm about four fifths of the way through it now, and it's so fucking awesome it's practically made my brain haemorrage out my eyes, nose and ears.

It's not just that the graphics are awesome - which they are - it's just that the game itself plays so well, so incredibly it generates an incredible buzz of excitement for that alone. I can't remember the last time I picked up a game that had a gameplay mechanic that just leapt out and grabbed you, that put you right in the game and spun thousands of memorable moments out of one basic idea, in the way that the cover system in Gears of WAAAARGH! does. Just the glory of diving from one piece of cover to the next is so easy and so thrilling, you wind up gurgling with delight before you're out of the training mission.

What NWoD said about blurring the lines between movie and game is true. Not just because the graphics are great, but because of the way it all looks so deliberate and slick, the way dramatic moments spring up from gunfight to gunfight - like a desperate sprint to revive a downed comrade, or being convinced you're about to bite the dust only to have another soldier save yo' mother fucking ass at the last minute. Oh it's glorious. Having my entire squad bleeding out on the battlefield, and then singlehandedly taking down wave after wave of locusts, certain only of my impending death until a couple of inspired moments of strategy put me on the offensive, and then let me come out victorious, and rervive my dying pals is the kind of thing gaming cumshots are made of

So while it all looks effortless and magnificent, there's a sense that the game is working hard to make these moments so satisfying. There's some lovely character work on your squad mates - your best buddy (in a bit of a queer way, actually) Dom, token black dude Cole ("Suited, booted and ready to get ex-ecuted!") and Baird, the one that everyone hates. So you feel like you know these guys, just like - hey! - in a movie. Plus there's some fucking great dialogue - and by great I mean like practically Predator standard one liners. I don't want to spoil them, but on dozens of occassions I was suprised and delighted by the insane macho dialogue on offer. Magic.

On Monday I was playing the two player co-op with George the Robot, which basically improves the game ten-fold - coming up with strategies on the fly, hollering instructions and recriminations and all the rest of it. Oh it's good. It's so, so fucking good.

Surely they can't send me the game for tomorrow but not the console? That would just be cruel
I'm in line for the machine tomorrow, but it doesn't look like I'll be getting any of the other stuff I ordered. I'm trying not to think about it, I'm pretending that tomorrow is just a normal day, because the anticipation would be unbearable otherwise.

I'm picking up the console and Zelda on my way home.

Now I am excited.

I also have a request. Friend at work wants recommendations for 3 PS2 games that are all about the killing, she doesn't want puzzles, just the murderdeathkill. Suggestions welcomed.

The console is tiny. Roughly the size of one of the old-fashioned Warner Bros video boxes. The wiimote feels good.

I'm at work, though. I won't be able to use this beautiful, beautiful thing until I get home.

WAH!

You know that bit in American Psycho when PB rings up Dorcia and asks for a reservation at 8, and the guy just laughs at him down the phone? Yeah, that's prety much what just happened to me when I tried to ask if they had any Wiis in stock.

So to satisfy my need to buy something, and also to kill the rest of the day, I'm going to go and buy a bracket to mount my screen on the wall.

I might post a picture when I'm finished, just for fun.

CALLING ALL RINGOES!!! CALLING ALL RINGOES!!!

I JUST RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING EMAIL...

Dear Nintendo fan,

Great news! We've managed to get our hands on some more Wii consoles and will be putting them on sale between 3pm and 4pm today (Friday, December 8). Last time we sold out in 7 minutes and we expect this batch to go even more quickly.

Nintendo sold 600,000 consoles in just 8 days in the US, so you can bet that the Nintendo Wii is THE must-have item of 2006.

The wait is almost over!

See the launch line-up

Sincerely,
Amazon.co.uk Video Games Team

One of my colleagues had promised her daughter a Wii and then Curry's phoned to say they'd all been stolen. This was when she got home at 7pm yesterday after 4 hours on the motorway. She ended up going out again to replace the stolen Wii and came home at 1:45am with one of 30 Wii's that her local Tesco Extra had sold via a raffle ticket system.

If an exhausted 55 year old woman with a hangover can get a Wii like that, you should bloody well be ashamed of yourself.

Octavia has got mine, tucked under her desk apparently. Unfortunately I won't get to Cocksford until about 8.00 tonight, and even then I'll probably have to interact with her for a bit, rather than just turning up, barging her out the way and getting stuck into the tech.

Also, annoyingly, every single shop on Oxford Street is sold out of Wii Play, which I really wanted to get.

lol, those prices are pretty shit, aren't they? Barely £100 over retail. I read in the run up dozens of smug fuckers posting on Spazz Your Say about how they'd reserved one and were going to make a packet selling it on Ebay to desperate parents, but seeing as everyone has had the same idea, there are shedloads of consoles on the site, driving the price down. I'm willing to bet each one of these c**ts had visions of the final sales figure going into four-figures, lol.

Yeah I saw that, Mask, but by that point the initial thught of "I want to buy something, now" had worn off. Plus, much as I like the idea of the cool controller interface, I wonder how long it'll be before the novelty wears off. I remember when I first got an eyetoy for my PS2 and I was like "why would you ever want to use a controller again??" but then it was like, I used it maybe 3 times before getting bored and using it just seemed like too much effort. Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome and innovative but I think if I bought a Wii I'd end up just using it to play classic nintendo games, which is a bit of a waste really.

I pre-ordered a Wii from Woolworths for delivery to my local store on 7th November. I was told it was despatched on 2nd December, and then nothing.... The store don't know, the customer service don't know. They have my money and they have supposedly sent it to the store, but it has taken six days and no joy. I am not quite sure where they are sending it from - but six days in this modern age to deliver a parcel in the UK is madness.

My boyfriend pre-ordered his Wii online more that a month ago, and it never arrived today. He's very disappointed as he took the day off just to play it. It might come tomorrow, but the weekend is ruined already.

Fantastic. 2006 Britain, defined in five words.

Well, five words assuming you know the context they're used in. Maybe the desolate couple could spend the weekend investigating why so many people type 'that' instead of 'than'.

It's not a little bit though if you've been dying to play it since E3, and you've been counting down the days. If something serious happens, then the weekend being ruined is probably the last thing on your mind.

In In Praise of Idleness big thinker Bertrand Russell reckons that people who trivialise leisure activities in the way Dedalus has done are a bunch of fuckwitted spastics. That's the gist of it anyway. It's probably what he would say if he was a 14 year old posting on the internet, rather than a dead philosopher, but the core idea is basically the same.

Yeah, but would you let it spoil your whole weekend?

GF: Sorry your Wii didn't arrive.
Wii Fan: Hm.
GF: Why don't we have an early night? You know, see if we can take your mind off it?
WF: Is it going to bring me a Wii? I don't think so!
GF: I know that, but it might cheer you up a bit.

I can just see Bertrand Russell sulking all weekend in his bedroom because his butterfly net or whatever didn't arrive.

Also:

*sigh*

I wasn't trivialising leisure activities, I was saying I was surprised that adults would react so childishly when something they have looked forward to hasn't arrived.

I was disappointed myself when I ordered a new car and it ended up arriving a week late. I was pissed off but it didn't spoil my weekend.

Fuck Dang you should check out ebay these days. PS3's got taken off because they're was sooo much fraud going on. So then people started auctions for PS3 related hotmail addresses, like PS3_seller_uk@hotmail.com etc. with a pic of a PS3 hoping to snag a mug with a fat wallet. Plus some guy apparently sold three BRAND NEW PLAYSTATIONS!!! BUY NOW FOR XMAS. I'm sure the guy who shelled out over a grand didn't realise that he was buying three PS2's - but maybe he should have checked the small print.

Yeah but if you had been eagerly awaiting you new car for 6 months, and had planned a weekend around getting your new car, including a nice drive to the cotswolds maybe to see some relatives you hadn't been able to see for a while because they live far away and your old car isn't reliable enough to go on such drives, and you were all set on Friday morning to take delivery, with you bags packed, you could reasonably claim that the plans you had for the weekend had been ruined when you phoned up the garage and the neanderthal grease monkey slurred back at you "yeah, sorry mate, dunno what to tell yer like. we fort it was gonna be today but it asn't turned up. you could phone the 'ed office but they don't work on a friday so you'll av to leave a message and they'll probably get back to yer on monday or summink".

Then you'd put the phone down and look sadly at your pile of suitcases propped up by the doorway, and then out of your window to your empty driveway. You'd go into the kitchen and your missus would be standing there looking happpy and expectant, but you'd have to tell her the bad news and her face would drop like a stone. You'd phone the relatives you were planning to go and see and they'd put a brave face on it because that's what relatives do, but you'd know they'd feel sad aboout it, and you know you can't go and see them next weekend because you've got that thing you need to do, besides you're a busy man and you'd specifically left this weekend free because you knew you were getting your new car.

Couple with that the fact that thousands of other people had got their new cars on time and you knew that they would be happpily driviing their amazing new cars around all weekend while you were sat there at home, carless. Even the internet, your one place of solace seems to have turned against you, where every forum contains several topics where people are waxing lyrical about their amazing new cars and how it's the best car they've ever driven.

You can understand, when you look at it like that, how maybe, just maybe, someone can feel disappointed about their absent games console, to the point whereby their weekend plans had been ruined by what is almost certainly an administrative cockup by someone who simply doesn't appreciate how important it is that you get your console on time. Someone like you in fact..

I'll await your cynical response about probably being relieved at not having to make a token visit to boring relatives who you only go to see once in a blue moon for the sake of a soon-to-be forthcoming inheritance...

I do see your point, Ringo, but your elaborate weekend plans are a little different from taking a day off work for the arrival of a games console which you were planning to play. Okay, assuming you'd invited some friends round to play it and they'd all turned up and were equally disappointed, then yes it would put a downer on your weekend.

I was only saying I was surprised at the comment BM posted which sounded more like a mother describing her distraught child than a girlfriend bemoaning the fate of her fella. And for the second time it's not just because it's a games console and therefore "childish" (didn't I read somewhere that there are more people over 21 into computer games than kids anyway?), it's the reaction that I think is childish, not the Wii.

Anyhoo, I hope all those who did receive their Wiis are not disappointed with them.

This is going to be the most innocuous thousandth post ever, but I don't care, because I am sulking. Miraculously, Currys despatched my Wii yesterday. It arrived at a nearby depot this morning. It went out in a van this afternoon to be delivered to my house. It has not turned up. They stop delivering parcels at 5. It is almost 7. Where be my Wii?

I remember, as a child, nearly wetting myself in anticipation of arrival of the Megadrive. It became an obsession; buying any gaming magazine (Mean Machines was my favourite) with exclusive screen-shots of upcoming games, such as Altered Beast and Super Monaco Grand Prix. I ended up buying a Japanese one and I spent pretty much all my free time - except for the obligatory Friday-Saturday piss-ups on the local park - glued to it. Happy, sweet, innocent days.

I suppose it does make me feel a little sad that I cannot cumber up the same ecstatic excitement about consoles these days that I once did - although I did buy an XBox on Ebay, with 90 games for £120 some time ago. The only games I ever play on it, however are Tiger Woods (still) and Pro Evolution Soccer 5. I'm just too distracted by other things in my free time ie; getting shit-faced, playing poker and ... fuck - what the hell am I going on about here.

I'll probably get a Wii thingy when they're available on Ebay for £100 or something.

Would somebody please try to console me? Hahaha. See, at least I still have a sense of humour. Yeah. I suppose you're all too busy playing Zelda. I bet you haven't even read the manual properly, have you? You probably don't even know what you're doing. My Wii getting lost in transit is actually a blessing in disguise. Uh huh. *reads manual*

I have been watching this thread, and whilst not being much of a game player until I bought the PSP, something has kept me silently interested in maybe purchasing one.

I once saw an eye toy used at Nike when I worked there as a bit of after hours fun one Friday and thought the possibilities of the simplicity could revolutionise the gaming market, and that is something that Nintendo has obviously picked up on here with the wii - the idea of anyone more or less being able to play it makes it a social game, wheras most other platform players tend only to socialise within the realms of the game - online and so forth. Whilst the Wii has this capability, its primary selling point seems to be that it is a console aimed at everyone and I imagine come christmas day, the queens speech is going to be shunned as an abundance of families will flock around the TV while Uncle Joe makes an arse of himself in Wii bowling, while Nanna is a natural at tennis. Not too many fiddly controls, just a simple interface based on natural movement.

But this morning, I found the one single functionality that makes me have to have one. It's not the possibility of reliving the days of my youth with those social evenings with the neighbours around some silly games and a few beers. It's not the fantastic idea of being able to fire it up and connect to a game with any one of my netted up friends, just by knowing their account number. It's not it's multifunctionality as a virtual media centre for an incredibly good for value price. Nope its none of these - it's a thing called 'Mii'.

'Mii' you all cry? The ability to form your own avatars for playing against in competitions? Not exactly revolutionary, or even a new idea. But the idea to create characateurs of those people that make my wonderful life a living hell, the Mariah Carey's, the George Bush's, the Adam Millers and then fire up the boxing and punch the living fuck out of them using the controllers is nothing short of the most theraputic heaven possible. "A bad day at the office dear?" -"Yes Dear - had 3 months work deleted by that prat in Data Warehousing - just off to the wii to show him my physical appreciate and beat the living shit out of him - I'll be fine in 10 minutes". Sheer Genius. I imagine it might help me get fit as well, especially with my grudge list.

I *heart* wii !

I need to stop looking at this thread now. Every time I do, I want to rush out and buy one.

Especially now Polyphony have more or less declared that there's not going to be a Gran Turismo release until GT5, skipping GT-HD all together. Meaning it'll probably be a couple of years before there's a Gran Turismo game worth playing on the PS3...

I think it's basically the same story here, unless you're lucky enough to walk into a store at the right time. My friend was wandering past tesco last week and saw someone coming out with a console tightly clutched. She asked and he said he'd just got it, so when she went in it was like, they'd just got in stock a few hundred consoles, literally about 5 minutes before. Within half an hour they were all gone, one of them with my friend. I haven't played with her Wii yet though.

My mate did that thing where you buy one and try to make money out of it on ebay. I'm a bit disgusted but I kept my mouth shut.

Can you get Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Wii yet? This is one of my main reasons for wanting one. Also, Mario 64, and maybe F-Zero which had an excellent musical score.

Yep looks that way - a quick squizz on Kelkoo.nl and nobody seems to have them in stock. I'll wait until the new year and hopefully bag one then.

ooh! opera browser now available. I got the message in the night, but then my fucking network was down this morning. Still, there's little better than waking up to that lovely blue pulse telling you that you've got a present.

I should be receiving one tomorrow!

Amazon.co.uk keep getting stock in so I sat refreshing the page until it was available, then placed my order. Express delivery should arrive tomorrow before 6. This is the best Christmas ever!!

So you can browse on it now can you ? Cool..

I wonder if they'll make a keyboard for it or if it'll end up being a right PITA like surfing on the PSP can be if you want to do a text entry..

so should i keep my wii or sell it on christmas eve to some mug?

Posted by SilverGinger5 (Member # 49) on :

Keep it. Get Call of Duty. Mock me for being unable to complete the first proper level.

Or try to get higher than 2500 in tennis, that was my hobby for a while.

Nintendo Wii has broken me. I hurt [Frown]

I'm now set up on wireless so have got Opera. It's pretty good but vaguely pointless as I have a computer that is much easier to use the internet on about 7 seconds walk away.

Is it possible to actually play games against other people or can you just send messages? (I've not actually sent any yet so don't know if anything happens when you send them).

Black Mask. How is the Rayman game?

Has anyone got any of the virtual console titles yet? I'm tempted by Golden Axe but it's like £6 or something which admittedly isn't a lot but when you know you can download it for free it seems like a lot.

I got a few vc games. Sonic, ToeJam and Earl and Gunstar Heroes. I reckon that I've got about 2 hours out of them, and 90% of that was sonic. Castlevania is tempting me, as I've nearly finished the latest installment on the DS, but I don't have the classic controller yet.

There's no wifi enabled games yet in the UK. I think that a pokemon game has come out in the land of nip with that function, and brought with it some bad news. Unique friend codes for the game, not the machine [Frown]

I've been revisiting animal crossing on the DS, catching winter fish, making snowmen. Also bought dead rising on the xbox, which is fun if only to stand in a room and batter zombies to a bloody death with a frying pan. The actual mission design is shitty though, and the save system is ridiculous. But you all knew that.

On Zelda I got as far as a bit with jousting and couldn't find it in me to carry on. There's something very tiring about that game. Give me WarioWare Inc. on the GBA any day.

Phoenix Wright on the DS rocks!

Rayman Raving Rabbids on the Wii has me laughing like a big stupid child. Losing sleep over Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Phoenix Wright is the best game ever, but I've been saying that for a long time now. McAndrew was saying it before me. Second one is also excellent.

if you've got a DS, you should consider looking to import Rhythm Tengoku. I think it's up your street, mask.

I can vaguely recommend Call of Duty. The driving level was pretty fun and shooting Germans is always pretty good but generally i've not played it much so perhaps i shouldn't recommend it.

Zelda is awesome but doesn't feel particularly different to any other zelda game. I'm not sure that the having to swing your arm for the sword works particulary well in this game.

Wii sports is definitely the one i've spent most time on. Now up to pro in 4 of the 5 sports. Mainly only 4 because I really hate everything about golf. The game might be a good version of golf but I just loathe it as a "sport" so can't bring myself to play it. I don't really like baseball but it seems quite satisfying to play.

Has anyone played Red Steel yet? Is that worth a purchase?

Hmmm... Rhythm... no vowels. I like it.

I think the thing I've done most of on the Wii is watch youtube videos. And pick up Mii's so that they flail their limbs in the air, and I feel like a God.

Just found this

Looks like it's similar to Pandora but coded to work on a wii. Can't tell you how it works yet as I've foolishly come to work so will check it out later.

Why the fuck are you guys not all over this article yet?

Played Warioware Smooth Moves last night, and it's good. Made me chuckle a few times. Pretty much the same as the one on the GBA, and I suspect on the DS. Same characters, same art style. But when you're standing in your bedroom pretending to be an elephant using a remote control for a trunk, you know that you're having fun.

So far there's maybe 7 or 8 different 'forms' I've used, which are different ways to hold the controller. Each section is made up of 10-20 mini games, which last about 3 - 5 seconds each. It's not got hard yet for me, but I only played it for about an hour and a half before having to make dinner.

In other news, I'm still playing Zelda. About 25 hours in now, and I'm picking up bits of a mirror. Now I've got the hookshot, I'm a happy boy, and I'm enjoying it. And finally: I can't find three games for the DS Lite - Phoenix Wright 2, Yoshi's Island and the new Castlevania, which is really fucking me off. Where can they be?

I downloaded (legitimately!) the second Sam and Max installment from Telltale Games, but my PC is dying on me, and it's running at about .5 frames a second. I keep getting messages saying that my graphics card hasn't got enough power. It's only a matter of time before the thing dies on me. Sadly, Louise bought a cheap desktop last year, so there won't be a case for 'going halves' on a £1.5k quad core supercomputer just yet.
