Cheers NWOD. If I am that indesirable, do i really need a thread all about me?

I wish I hadn't missed thorn's post. I respect his opinion; at least he's balanced and I am still reeling at what I have done that is so bad. What the hell was so wrong with my posts? What's the difference beteeen a bit OTT and a sense of humnour by-pass that needs moderating, and something deserving of hate-posts?

Would someone at least try to tell me - and not of the you're turtle/unstable variety of reply - because I really don't see it.

I don't think anyone hates you, sam, just finds you hard to deal with, as you don't behave by the same 'conversational' rules as everyone else on here.

It's the difference between having a heated conversation in a pub, with each person in a group getting roughly the same time putting their point across, with occasional use of 'salty' humour, or having the conversation dominated by one person shouting their point relentlessly, which everyone else understood about half an hour ago, as they one by one make excuses to go to the bar.

We all understand what you're saying, you just don't need to say it quite so much.

My post wasn't about you. It was an explosive rant about people storming off because of the Moses thing.

For what it's worth, I think that thread in Society went brilliantly and we need more days like that, not fewer. Come on. What do you all prefer? Yesterday or the days when you keep pressing refresh and nothing happens?

What is this Moses thing? I come on here most days but I always seem to miss the stomp offs. And it's usually people I like that do it as well. I liked chocolatebuns and Louche and the rest. Why do they all go postal all of a sudden? You're not going to do that as well are you sam? It's like people are being picked off by a horror movie monster. The TMO server room wasn't built on an old Indian graveyard was it?

I liked them all too.

I'd like to know more about the Moses thing. She found a baby in a pond and ran away with it?

No I'm not going to go off. NWOD has shaken me a lot, but tmo is a part of my life and unless I am voted off, I want to stay. Of course, no-one will stay where they aren't wanted (except turtle, poor cow that I was); that's just plain sad, so I guess if it gets that bad I'll go, but I'm not ashamed to admit I love tmo.

Can't we have a thing they say, like S&M have a coded word or something, when I am being relentless repetitive, herbs - or can't people just say shut the fuck up you're ranting again? Then I might not get so carried away.

I dunno actually. NWoD seemed quite confident on the other thread, so I'd assumed she'd emailed him or something saying "God, that Thorn is such a c**t. He's chased me off TMO. What a wanker. That dickhead."

NWoD - Cherry in Hove is calling you a liar. Are you going to stand for that?

He lied about other stuff, why wouldn't he lie about this?

Did you know that Ben is actually one of NWOD's personas and he just pays someone to come to meets and pretend to be Ben?

Posted by Thorn Davis (Member # 65) on :

He also said that The Blue Posts on Newman Street was an "old man's pub" whereas it often draws quite a young crowd.

Posted by Thorn Davis (Member # 65) on :

All the evidence points to NWoD being rather a deceitful character.

Posted by Thorn Davis (Member # 65) on :

When I went to see Interloper NWoD told me that they would be on at 10pm, whereas they didn't actually take the stage until about 10.15. The worst thing was that there was no reason for him to lie about that. Maybe it's a compulsive thing.

The Turtle never changing its spots thing bothers you and you’ve asked that it not be used as part of an explanation as to why you’ve got a few people’s dander up. Having said that, it’s your history here and people’s perceptions of you are inevitably coloured by it.

It’s good that you’ve stopped drinking, well done. That’s sincere. However, it was never really the fact that you were drunk that was the problem; it was the way in which you chose to post. I’ll come to that in a minute.

I understand that several of your posts as Turtle were influenced by alcohol because you tell me that was so. That makes a difference to you. To us, on the other side of the internet, we’ve only got your posts to go on. The words are up there the same whether you’re drunk or sober. And it’s the words that wound people up.

It was traits like over-familiarity with posters you hadn’t developed an established relationship with, a patronising, paternal attitude to people who were neither your offspring nor, for all you knew, inferior to you intellectually, emotionally and in terms of life experience. It was the convenient evocation of (probably genuine) life experiences to defend your argument – the Checkmate: Some of my best friends are Black Down’s Syndrome Sufferers Who’ve Been Raped move. It was the passionate refusal to see the other side of an argument, the sassy sister cross examination, the machine gun rhetorical questions that provided their own answers on impact with a ‘huh?’ and a ‘hey?’. It was the blinkered belief that your experiences gave you ownership of a subject and the “You know nothing” retort to reasoned argument. It was the needy, saintly “what have I done wrong?” curtain calls to every major performance, it was unbearable obsession with analysing this community – not from the point of view of a member of it (we all do that, it’s welcome), not as a cog curious about its place in the machine, but rather as detached, interested observer. You placed yourself behind the microscope. You took that position. You forged a place as an outsider and then complained when you weren’t part of the community.

Plus you didn’t get the banter and you always spelled my name wrong.

It was a combination of the above and more that made people wary of engaging with you and made them angry. The cumulative effect of the above was an impression that you were dangerously unhinged. The self-confessed alcoholic persona added to that impression but it wasn’t necessary.

At least that’s the way I see it.

I think the reason NWOD and myself and Sabian got worked up yesterday is that much of the above was evident in several of your posts, because the words on the screen sounded like they could have been typed by Turtle or by Housewife or by Caretta or by any of the other incarnations from your Inebriated Period.

Everything you post is judged on its merits but I think you don't get as many extra lives as other people, any slack has been taken up by the weight of your past personas.

I’ve not been around much so I’m hardly the best placed to judge but I’d venture that you, as Sam, are rarely the poster your once were. Which is great. You seem to be integrating with this community in a way you were never able to before. It’s just that yesterday - drunk, sober or simply egged on by me (I hold my hands up and admit that I was maybe a bit antagonistic in my language. Sorry.) - you came over all chelonian. It wound people up.

I’m rarely here so I don’t really feel the right to make this post. But you asked and said please, so that’s the best I can do.

The best thing you can do, IMHO, would be let it lie now, not dissect it anymore and go back to being Sam. [Smile]

sam's obviously got the sort of 'personality' that's attracted to teaching.

Posted by New Way Of Decay (Member # 106) on :

What is wrong with you sam? This isn't big brother. No-one gets voted off. It seems you are having a problem feeling validated in what you do for a living. That much is clear. For the past couple of weeks you’ve been retaliating to what appears to be voices in your head, not on the board about the ability to do your job. Like a tightly sprung mouse trap, it only takes a little bit of pressure (concern over something you said to a class) and you go off. You’re a black hole of arguments, sucking in everything in its path. You throw all of this light, flighty meandering drivel all over the board and when someone engages you, you turn on the attack. Now you’re upset and feel victimised? GROW THE FUCK UP. Standing around saying ‘right hands up if you want me to stay, hands up, I don’t see enough hands – you’re literally forcing me to leave I don’t care….I’m smiling’ isn’t exactly going to smooth things out.

Listen, I’m glad you’ve been off the drink for two years but you have to understand, that where I’m standing, this is still classic turtle behaviour. I’m genuinely sorry if you feel offended by what I’ve said. I’m not directing any hatred, malice or trying to isolate anyone with mental disabilities or people who love and care for them. I’m annoyed that you, as someone who must have exposure to schoolyard banter must understand that the words and their usage mean, but choose to act ignorant to the colloquial use of terms like Spaz and Gay that are in constant use throughout our green and pleasant land. Acting like the vanguard for your selected minorities is pitiful and constantly, STUPIDLY fucking ignoring someone who is saying to you ‘hello, you’ve offended me in the past, thanks’ is making you look insensitive. It makes you look like you’re playing the victim here and that’s why I’m giving you a hard time.

OK. Thanks for that.

I guess I do understand I have less lives than others and I guess I always will, but it is clear I am going to drop occasionally into turtle-like posts; this is the second? Maybe third time? It is clearly a facet of my character when worked up and feeling reckless or just plain thoughtless, or tired, and not the most endearing one, I admit.

I guess I just want to belong enough for people to feel they can spot when I get all Chenolian and say 'Shut the Fuck up' to me without offence on either side, or prejudice, instead of all this turtle stuff starting again. Not that you are my guardians and it is your place to police me; I'm not trying to pass the responsibility on for my behaviour here. Maybe you know what I mean, I hope so.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time and I agree; it's well time to drop the topic.

I don't really agree with what jhnosey or DoWNs said and I don't think sam's posts really needed that level of analysis and finger wagging "this is what you've done wrong". Also, I never get to do it to the posters that really piss me off, so I don't know why anyone else should be allowed to. Maybe I should use this thread to break down exactly how and why each poster on this board has fucked me off at one time or another in the patronising tone of American Self Help books. If that's what we're doing now, which it seems to be.

'Ere. Don't worry too much about it, mate. I've been coming here on-and-off for about 6 years and I've passed through all kinds of a spectrum of social ineptness, bitter outcrowdness, oddball sockpuppets, shaky attempts at being 'in' and so on.

I've only just twigged that Thorn Davis has been calmly trolling my last few posts, ffs. (Speaking o' which, Thank You, Davis. I'm not being sarcastic: I'm building a teens help website and your trolling gave me an idea to write an article called The Lost Art of Trolling and it's gone down like an Aerosmith groupie! Naw... Thorn was just bottle fed and never hugged as a child, now he feels the need to lash out on the internet because in real life he lacks the bottle to finish off the trinity of sociopaths. Killing small animals and fires are just a little too real, he's mastered the bed wetting though!

Thorn lay folornly amongst the crumpled, grubby towelling in his makeshift cardboard cot. He was bored, and very, very lonely. Something moved at the periphery of his vision; he instinctively grabbed what turned out to be his toes as they arced into view. They made reasonable play-things, he supposed.

There wasn't much more he could do for now; mummy hadn't come out of her alcoholic stupor for 3 1/2 hours and his nappy was so full of crap that it was beginning to get seriously uncomfortable.

His toes were all he had. For now.

SCREEE!

His buttock skin erupted into sharp red pain as the nappy rash attacked again and he let his toes go with a bellow of agony. "WAAAHHH" he screeched. Why didn't mummy change him? Why didn't she at least give him clean blankets to lie on? He couldn't believe she'd set him to bed in the laundry basket again!

Thorn was so... so... ANGRY!

After spending the past 40 mins reflecting on this comment and realising it isn't the first time I've heard similar I think I know why this is.

I never had this sort of reaction before, but thinking about it, it seems that as soon as I became a certified teacher people started to say things like I'm "vicious" and "unstable"... Perhaps it is true, once you're 'qualified' in something, you immediately become that stereotype... Like poofter actors, shark lawyers, inept teachers... Woe is me! I *only* did it to make my CV look better! I'm not really gonna teach! Please God, I don't want to eventually be sanctioned! *sob*

I know the little white things under your masks DoWN's are like little caps for the filter jobbie, but when I first looked at it, I thought they were cumming down your chests. I knew I shouldn't have worn contacts today!

If you put the cap on the filter do you die?

Totally. It's sort of a prank we play to the unsuspecting. We're like 'look how rad these masks are' and assist someone into them, then pop the cap on. They're air-tight so the panic begins. The funny thing about panicking, particularly choking, is that the asphyxee immediately starts to adopt the universal sign of choking. Clutching the throat, instead of just popping the cap back off.

Only if we're doing instrumentals.

I thought you could fit the microphone in place of the filter. The sound guy could approach you with a mic lead and jack straight into your face... as it were.

This was actually just a childish cynical comment on my behalf where someone says 'what are you changing the name to?' and I say Michael Television' because I'm looking forward to going out to Kingston to post fucking posters I made with my bare hands. Because no-one else wants to help because they're 'working tomorrow' As if my life is just one big holiday where I walk around doing fuck all.
