I've just been reading the Pervert! thread in S&R, I don't think I've laughed so hard in ages - thank you Darryn, this has made my week [Smile]

Struggling to remember who some of the old screen-names belonged to, whether they were aliases or actual other people...

Trying desperately to remember something snidy and Barbelithesque to say, but can't...

I'm going to make a gin and tonic instead.

I had no idea what my password was but my laptop remembered, which is odd because I never used TMO on this laptop.

I had no idea what my password was and helpfully my username was also different to my login name, so I had no chance of remembering.

STILL. Great to see this place back. Someone let Benway know. He'll be all over it.

I admit, Facebook made this a lot easier, but we prefer it the old fashioned way.

Or preferably you get into a "who's funnier" cockwaving competition that provides amusement for others.

The browser on my phone auto completed my username, which is pretty fucking odd.

As it turned out, it took me two tries to remember my password for this place. Which basically confirms that my ability to choose a decent password has not improved in the past 15 years.

On a related note, I was so looking forward to being able to log back onto TMO that I almost mentioned it to my now 12 year old daughter. Thankfully I stopped myself before I did so.

"So, you'll never guess what just happened! This interweb message board that I used to spend lots of time reading and occasionally wrote on? Well, it just came back! I'll be able to go back and continue talking about things that I was talking about before you were even born!..."

This made me realize that, with a sense of mild horror, that said child is actually capable of finding this place on her own.

I seem to remember that once there was a discussion about the speculative second generation of teemo and when it might arrive... I think I might need to add this URL to the netnanny console. [Eek!]

Ooh, I'd forgotten Mrs Slocombe. Rather a prescient choice, as I seem to resemble her more each day.

I realised with glee earlier that finally I had somewhere I could write 'cockwaving' without offending some stupid facebook friend I don't really know.

That is, really, the thing that edits all of us...

I mean here I can say that my entire workplace is made up of ***** and a shower of utter shit who couldn't figure out how to shit in a toilet if they had their trousers down, a turtlehead poking out and a toilet right goddam in front of them because they're all such a useless bunch of braindead fucking cretins I want to murder them all with a blunt knife so it would take longer......

But I have a bunch of them on Facebook - So I don't.....

What the fuck happened ?

Yeah. And TMO isn't solely made up of people humblebragging about their/their kids' achievements or posting super-fabulous new profile pics so people can go 'U look beautiful hun!' or describing their new baby as 'a cloud of love'. Eurgh. Here you can be fucking rude to people and it's not only accepted it's expected. It gives me a happy.

Are we going to have to go into the Derry sewers and fight Pennywise?

What I find bizarre is that since TMO shut down, the whole world became TMO. It's so peculiar to watch a flame war erupt between people like Piers Morgan and JK Rowling and get reported as thought it's actual news. And the President of the US making bizarre Harlequin-esque assertions, completely oblivious to the "what-are-we-going-to-do-about-this" bickering that follows his every crazy post.

I've been surprised at how want to do this. I mean, not surprised because I didn't think anyone would post anything worth liking, but because I didn't really realise how much I used it elsewhere as a nod of acknowledgment or approval. I wonder how much it would have changed TMO, having a 'like' button. The other place I currently post on has a system where you can only give ten likes a day, and it keeps a score under your username; I tried to maintain a running total of my 'community score' being 75% of my post count which meant being much more strategic about how much I posted, and - unfortunately - having to be much kinder to the other occupants of the board.

Not sure about this. I think well-known people always had rows with each other in public, except they used to do it in the letters columns of daily papers or - God forfend - in person. Twittering it is just the new method, and much more enjoyable for everyone else because 140 characters renders context and nuance almost impossible. Leading to endless re-discussion of exactly what was meant etc. If there was anything like TMO in the real world then we wouldn't have fallen on the forum's neck like a long-lost relative.

Over at RLLMUK there was an enormous scandal about the rep system and ultimately rep totals had to be removed for users as it was being weaponised.

A small gang of people concocted an actual ploy to get an entirely pleasant lady to leave the forum.

RLLMUK is both great and terrible in equal measure.

I lurk there on very rare occasions and used to read the thread about Gamergate with a mixture of fascination and disgust. The majority of posts were sensible and thoughtful but some of the outliers were just incredible. Also: I've rarely come across someone on the internet I wanted to punch more than NEG.

Life. Trump. Brexit.

Ennui.

Meh.

Google. Amazon.

Fucking hell...I wouldn't be surprised if I'm asked for my papers over here. Mike got stopped by an unmarked cop car yesterday for not crossing the street "properly" They just wanted to fuck with him. I can't tell you how often this shit happens here.
