This is where I'll be so heavenly,
so come and dance with me Michael
So sexy, I'm sexy,
so come and dance with me Michael
I'm all that you see, you wanna see,
so come and dance with me Michael
So close now, so close now,
so come and dance with me, so come and dance with me, so come and dance
with me

Michael, you're the boy with all the leather hips,
sticky hair, sticky hips,
stubble on my sticky lips

Michael, you're the only one I'd ever want
only one I'd ever want
only one I'd ever want
Beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor
Michael, you're dancing like a beautiful dance whore
Michael, waiting on a silver platter now...
And nothing matters now

We must give thanks to Franz Ferdinand for turning the forum's feelings about today's birthday boy (and King of the Forum) into lyrical form.

The boy's and girl's name Michael \m(i)-chael\ is pronounced MYE-kal. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "who resembles God".

I suppose there's a resemblance.

Join with me in wishing Mr. Television a Happy Birthday and congratulating him on successfully making it through the age of 27 without dying, unlike so many fellow musical talents.

Thanks for the thread! Tonight I'll be excitedly hurrying from work to attend a property expo and make myself giddy on investment prospects. Things never use to be like this. I was going to treat myself to a new laptop as I was supposed to be going permanent today. TODAY. On Friday I phoned my line manager to ask him if he was aware that if he didn't speak to the agency right bloody now, then we wouldn't be insured to enter the building on Tuesday. That prompted our contracts to be put back until the 12th of March. Ace. So it got me thinking and will help turn this into a non-exciting question and answer thread.

What was your first big purchase that you saved all your hard earned for? This can be the first, the most important, or the most life changing.

I remember mine. It was my Hi-Fi which I bought as seperates. I knew I wanted to buy some parts (amplifier, CD player, tape deck) and I had saved an almighty, whopping THREE HUNDRED POUNDS. In the end I went home with a valve amplifier and nothing else. I had to scrounge the other parts from my family to make up a working setup. In the end I was pumping out music through a PA monitor. I was playing tapes through an old mini-tv/tape combo. It was mono. [Embarrassed] Besides that, I was so pleased to actually own some great thing I had worked for and paid for with my own moolah. 'That's mine that is' I said, to the cringe-worthy piece of crap I owned.

The amplifier blew up last month. [Frown]

I wish it were a lie, but you are really proud of what you did there, aren't you ralph?

Posted by ralph (Member # 773) on :

Proud? God no. Deeply, deeply ashamed would be more like it. I just couldn't stop myself. It's an addiction.

Happy Brithday for yesterday, NWoD. 27 is quite a difficult age, as I recall. So: good luck!

Posted by Nathan Bleak (Member # 1040) on :

No, you're getting it wrong. 26 is the shit one. 27 is the one where everything starts working out.

Posted by H1ppychick (Member # 529) on :

I think he's 28 now, ben. I could be wrong.

I'm 28. What is 28 then? I could describe my own experiences. I'm feeling so much dread it's unreal.

28 is good too. All the ground work you laid down when you were 27 and climbing out of the hell hole that was 26 starts to pay off, and the future starts to look like something to look forward to, rather than a crushing black hole of missed opportunity and broken dreams.

Back in '88 in my case.

I have to say that 28 to 38 was easily the happiest decade of my life so far though, so some people here might take consolation from that. (Although I'm not quite sure why me enjoying my 30s would console them in any way. [Confused] )

I've found it's all been downhill from 24, actually.

Posted by Nathan Bleak (Member # 1040) on :

It hasn't been though has it. I mean - that's just a pose, because in that time you found someone you wanted to marry, bought a house, and esablished a decently paid career doing something that occasionally allows you to be passionate. I mean, if you turn the whiny goth posturing off for a second and look at things in terms other than how much you can drink and for how long, a lot of it has probably been quite OK hasn't it.
