Benway has a bit of a complex about rejection, since Mum locked him in the attic for 8 years. He was doing ok but all that stuff with Thorn really set him off again.

just because somebody says they like you, doesn't mean they really do. You have to test their loyalty to find out.

Played on the PS3 for the first time yesterday. First off the GTHD demo. I wasn't overly impressed with it, graphically it was ok but the way the cars handled just seemed horrible however switching off the traction control and ASM made it more fun. Having the X button for the accelerator seemed crap compared to forza, no subtle control and I actually took my thumb off the analogue stick and put it back on the D pad for the steering, not so good, although I'm sure you can set up the controller in a better way.

Anyhow unlocked a few cars then got a bit bored and stuck motorstorm in.

Now this was a bit more like it, graphically pretty awesome and instantly fun. Loved the different vehicles and how they relate in different ways to the various areas of track. Fantastic crash scenes and it wasn't as easy to win a race as I expected it to be.

One thing I did notice was it often seemed slow to load things - like in motorstorm when choosing your vehicles or waiting for a track to load.

The buttons are pressure sensitive. Once you get used to it, you have more subtle control using the X button than one of the triggers on an xbox controller. You can also switch the configuration so the shoulder triggers are throttle and brake but this didn't seem so easy to use for me.

GT:HD needs to be played with a force feedback steering wheel to be fully appreciated though.

This may well be common knowledge, but I feel compelled to share in case it isn't.

The Wii Opera Browser supports Flash which means that you can play certain Flash games with your Wii Remote. Obviously this only works with games that use the mouse. After a quick Google, I found a great site called *Wii Playable which is optimized for viewing on the Wii, and lists a huge number of free games.

Hours of free Wii fun. [Cool]

I've also noticed that they've improved the buffering of streaming videos since the last upgrade of the Wii Browser and now it has no problems watching full length episodes of TV programs.

I had a lovely time last night browsing Tv-links and watching lots of Brasseye

On the Forza2 theme. I've amassed some money and Im thinking about buying a car that I can tune up to win races. Any idea which one is best to go for, I've got about 200,000 and I guess I'm looking for the best car in each class ultimately. There's so many cars, it's confusing.

Also there's a ton of Ferraris but I haven't unlocked any yet, how do you get them unlocked?

I've been looking at the auction house a bit, I figured a Ferrari Enzo would be cool, what are they to buy normally through the game 250,000?

Anyway last night I got a golf and tried to make it into the best class C car so when I get an online race with the class C limit on it I can load that in FTW!

I'm going to try and do that for all the classes. I was wondering if there is an optimum car in each class, but I guess you can tune most cars up to be as competitive as possible.

I've just got Rainbow Six Veges and Call of Duty 3. Does anybody want to do co-op missions with me for massive pointage.

This weekend I mostly played Viva Pinata and GRAW. Finished GRAW on normal, and now I'm playing it on Hard mode. Hard mode is harder. Like on CoD, you generally go down with one bullet. Can be frustrating, but the more I play GRAW, the more I enjoy it. Got 440 points on that now, and soon it'll be time to try and conquer multiplayer, although I tried it again last night, and as usual was being sniped constantly every time I moved.

Also play an hour or so of Forza. Gone past level 30 now. Played my first multiplayer. Lost every race.

I find that the best cars tend to be ones that you win. You can go through without buying cars at all. In fact, I've only bought two so far - the GTi at the beginning of the game, and the Lamborghini. When I hit level 30, Ferrari sent me a car. The recent annoying thing I had was where I took this '85 911 and basically blew thousands and thousands on maxing it out with all the best equipment. It's now completely impossible to drive the damn the thing. It goes from 0-100 in about 3 seconds, but it can't corner at all. I've tweaked the rollbars, the brake ratio, the suspension ratio and the downforce, but it just won't take a corner. [Frown]

I'm quite looking forward to Sensible Soccer on xbox live.
I liked Sensible Soccer on the Amiga. Much better than Kick Off don't you think?

I suspect this is the most important question that has ever been asked on TMO and I don't think it is one that can be answered in one sentence.

Both Sensible Soccer and Kick Off (2) were fantastic games. Very very different versions of the beautiful game but both loveable in their own ways.

Kick Off 2 was a vast improvement over the original Kick Off and was vastly customisable. Boggy pitches, Icy pitches, different harshnesses of refs (anyone remember S. Screech on the Amiga version, pretty much a red card for every foul), many different leagues/cups etc. However, the meat of the game is where it really shone. Upon first picking up the game you would struggle to run the ball into the opponents goal if they had no players as this was one of the few games that didn't have "ball sticks to foot" physics.

Thus many people were frustrated by Kick Off before being able to fully get into it. However when you got some practice time in, you could do lovely little bits of skill entirely due to the fact that the ball wasn't stuck to your foot.

Overall 9/10 (and it spawned Player Manager which was a great footy management game with Kick Off 2 gameplay).

Sensible Soccer

Again, lots of options. National, Club and "Joke" teams. More cups and leagues than you would have any idea what to do with. Kit customisation.

Now, this was basically a football arcade game. Anyone could pick up this game and be shooting at goal within minutes. (Not necessarily scoring but still shooting). However, just because a game is easy to pick up doesn't mean it's necessarily shallow and Sensible Soccer definitely didn't disappoint. The ability to change tactics on the fly was good. (The ability to score from right at the wing just over the half way line every single time with a massive lofted curler perhaps not so good but it looked fantastic).

Overall 9/10

So. As you can see, it's not so cut and dry. With the ties scored I've had to give the win to Kick Off 2 as Sensible Soccer had the really annoying coding which meant that when you had scored 8 goals in a game the opposition keeper suddenly became about 8 times as good which unfortunately left about 75% of games between experienced players as an 8-8 draw.

I've played a few online games now, initially struggled but it's a bit better now that I've maxed a few cars out in their respective classes.

This car is my best B class car at the moment. I've got a load of B class cars for some reason.
 -

I'll probably have to buy a D class or de-level one of my b class as I've only got two D class cars in my garage. I took a VW Golf up to C class but concentrated on making it light and the handling really good, but lost every online race as it was underpowered, I had to have a good look at it and take off all the handling tweaks and just try and get it to fast as possible. Since then I have had more success with it.

I'm up to level 25 now and I got my first R4 car last night. It's a good game although much of it is a repetitive slog that I only sit through in order to unlock a new car.

I started playing Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree last night. I've never played the DS version, but I found it extrememly easy to get to grips with, and I like the idea of these games that you spend a few minutes on every day, and can track your progress. My brain started around 900g and after a little dicking around now weighs 1270g. Odd that it doesn't feel any heavier, but I'm sure The Academy knows best.

I wonder if I pass the Wii Degree, would it be appropriate to mention it on my CV? It's probably more valuable to a potential employer than my real degree.

didn't have much time to play games last night, and I doubt I'll have a chance until saturday now. Started on Rainbow Six Vegas on realistic mode. Hard. Harder than GRAW in the same mode. In GRAW, at least once you know where the bad guys are, you can generally work out how to shoot them before they see you. Rainbow Six seems more open ended. The bad guys run around more, act more like other people. The environments are more complex and less like linear paths. Also, you don't have a health meter, instead as you're getting shot you lose your vision, but within 5-10 seconds you're back to full health. But hell's teeth it doesn't take much to kill you. The bad guys literally take you down the second they see you. I'm getting killed twenty times between each checkpoint, often thanks to just poking my head over a barrel for a second just to see what's coming up, or leaning ever so slightly round a corner. I couldn't get to sleep for ages after playing because I was so strung out from creeping about expecting to be executed at any moment.

I'm going to go on the internet and find somebody else with the game who wants to play co-op. I reckon it could be awesome.
