What happened to that excé Star Wars thread with the big article by Kovacs at the start? I was going to speak in it. And it has gone.
Anyway I recently saw the 'Clone Wars' mini-series as recommended by PAYNTER, edited into a single hour-long cartoon.
It is without a doubt the best Star Wars I have seen since Return Of The Jedi. The quality of the writing was phenomenal - fabulous attention to detail, powerful symbolism and bursting with excellent ideas. It even made me quite like some of the rubbish ideas we have seen in the recent film (Yoda fighting, battle droids, clone troopers) because of how well they were all used. The question is: why is this chap not writing Episode 3? Because it is clearly going to be a bit shit. (I see with disappointment that Luc-vuss looks to be writing the script by himself AGAIN, even though he clearly can't.)
If the preview of Grevious is anything to go by then Episode III will be the most enjoyable of this 'new trilogy'. What are you waiting for? If you haven't got it already and you like Star Wars I recommend downloading it now. (I haven't checked the quality of any of those torrents BTW)

Clone Wars Season 3 is due for release early next year. I hear that instead of 10 x three minute episodes, we will be treated to 5 x twelve minute installments. Which is a good thing, natch.
I've been watching the Battlestar Galactica mini-series on Sky, and if you can disconnect it from the original, it's quite entertaining. The external shots of ships flying through a richly coloured space are by far the best I've ever seen in a TV series, and despite the occasionally cheesy dialogue and dubious plot, it still makes interesting viewing.
It makes me wonder if the rumoured Star Wars TV series might actually work in that format.

Of course. Although I'm not sure exactly what they're going to cover next time - I thought they pretty much packed everything I could have possibly expected into that one hour - however I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised.

Are the Cylons still led by a dwarf with an afro wearing a dress? That thing used to terrify me as a child. L@@k!

I don't doubt that Star Wars TV is a fantastic idea with a lot of potential. But I'm finding myself becoming increasingly wearisome with the SW franchise. I think Clone Wars' advantage was that it was a cartoon, and thus probably escaped the rigorous boringisation process that would no doubt affect the TV series - ideas rejected for not agreeing with the Lucas 'canon', which would probably put a lot of more interesting writers off. I could of course be wrong.
Hey! The new Star Wars game on the GameCube is astonishing! As with the other Rogue Squadron games you play missions (that have an amusingly blatant disregard for anything from the New Trilogy) in order to unlock bits from the classic films - in the latest installment you can, for example, replay the entire 'rescue Leia from the Death Star' sequence, playing as Luke, with beautiful, almost photo-realistic graphics, and best of all using actual footage from the original film for cutscenes! Unfortunately the game is shit. Really, really shit. And it's by Germans! The ones that made Turrican! It doesn't make sense.

Oh, I've played that. It's shit. Really , really shit. The one before it is OK, but that's just wank.
I think PC Zone hit the nail on the head last year when they said that Knights Of The Old Republic was the best piece of Star Wars fiction since Empire Strikes Back.

Surely the original Dark Forces was the best additional story. A dude kills about 500 stormtroopers and single-handedly foils a plot that could have overthrown the rebellion. And, somehow, he kills Boba Fett! Before Return Of The Jedi! And, then, no one ever mentions him again!
I do very much like the fact that KOTOR is set so long before ANH but I cannat be arsed with turn-based RPGs.

Plus you can make you characters walk around in their underwear. I cannot understate how much this adds to the game, especially as one of them's a 14 year old girl. True, she's blue, with sort of big worms growing out of her head but if you squint your eyes a bit you can cheerfully spaff a few wads of liquid silk over your keyboard.
