Twitter is by far the better option. Facebook winds me up to the point I almost had a rant off on there a while back. I had an excellent post written in my head about how it is destroying proper social interaction as you like posts from friends and therefore think you're staying in touch with them when actually you aren't but it masks that you're loosing touch with them. There was also a section about fake people and fake news and a general rant about vapid people. It could probably have won some kind of prose award but I decided to just shut up instead.

For real fun though I play on instagram, I love pics of peoples dinner, cats and yoga poses (I wish I was being ironic at this point)

I did like facebook for keeping in touch with people that I wasn't really friends with - ie I'd never email them/ write them a letter/ want to talk to them on the phone. The sort of people that you don't seek out but if they're in town and free for a drink, you'd meet up. I will probably drift back on occasion, but I wish there was a way of filtering what friends post but not 'like'.

Yes - this is my issue with FB. There's like, a tier of friends on there that I would make more effort to stay in touch with properly if facebook didn't exist. There are people who i wouldn't be back in touch with at all, and facebook helps maintain a loose connection, and there are some where I see them a fair amount and facebook makes no difference, but it's that middle tranche that makes me a bit sad, where i would probably send a proper email or arrange a visit if facebook didn't kid me that we were in touch.

What's really sad is that even if you did make the effort to email they have the same habits now with Facebook and probably wouldn't bother emailing back as they would just "catch up" with you on there
