So! Long weekend starts tomorrow! Has anyone got any plans?

I can barely sit still with excitement - I haven't had any time off since I started this job back in November and have got some great plans lined up for the weekend. Most likely Friday will be chilled out, but things will kick off on Saturday as a bunch of friends are coming down for the weekend. Going to have a full house, in fact. Expecting seven people on Saturday, and we're gonna go see Clutch at the Zodiac, then hit a pub or two on the way home. Sunday, another couple of people are adding to the melee and I'm gonna be doing a big tradiation Easter Sunday lunch (Fajitas, probably because it's all I can cook). Few drinks on Sunday afternoon and evening. Then. Chillout with films and games on Monday. Should be fantastic.

How about you.

Friday - clean house, drink beer with TMOdad and play PS3.

Saturday - help mate with website, evening spent with band chums and possibly alcohol.

Sunday/Monday - Chilling with friends maybe??

Friday morning: chores and gardening.

Friday or Monday lunch - boozy lunch at friend's place with usual suspects.

Friday evening: gig in Cardiff with 3 of aforementioned suspects

Saturday: down to Mum's place, general odd-jobbing and PC assistance

Sunday: Mum's excellent Easter lunch with all the trimmings, more odd-jobbing & PC assistance, possibly family outing to cinema

Monday: back to Bristol, possibly boozy lunch as above.

I'd forgotten all about the long weekend. My folks are down from Scotland, so I imagine getting drunk through gritted teeth will be on the cards at some point.

lie around with the curtains closed, drinking beer and playing computer games.

eta: And seeing necro on saturday night. STICK A GUN IN YOUR **** FOR FUN, PISS IN YOUR DRINK, FUCK WHAT YOU THINK.

Unlike you guys, I don't have many friends to hang out with, but somebody will be coming with me to the gig at least.

I am looking forward to the bank holiday weekend too. I'm going out round Manchester for a few beers on Thursday night with my Kaiser Chiefs-loving-girlfriend, followed by 'The A6 Run' all day Friday, which involves fifty-odd or so of us meeting in a pub (which name always escapes me) at the end of the A6 in Hazel Grove and drinking our way back towards Stockport - 30-odd pubs in total, hence why we only have halfs in each pub. I thought I'd be a smart arse last year and try to outdo everybody by drinking pints, but regretted doing so within the first ten pubs. Ach. We'll be stopping off somewhere during the crawl to watch the City stuff Charlton.

Saturday will mainly involve sleeping, before heading off into Manchester again for a spot of clubbing. I will ensure that we all go to Rockworld, of course.

Sunday will be a 'cracker', as we head off to Aqua Bar's Easter Breakbeat Eggstravaganza, which will involve lots of drinking, egg painting, jumping around near the canal outside and bugging the DJs to fuck.

We're supposed to be doing something on Monday too, but I'm buggered if I can remember what. I'll play it by ear.

Well Friday I'm going to be driving to Leicester to pick up a few bits for my car. I'm trying to sort out all these niggly little silly problems before I sell it. Then Saturday I'm halping a friend replace the track rod ends on his car, maybe drinking somewhere in the evening. Sunday I'm helping another friend sort his car. I'm not sure what needs doing but he seems to think it'll take all weekend. Possibly stripping the interior. Who knows. Then Monday it's off to Lydden Hill for some Rallycross.

Jesus. [Embarrassed]

Not entirely sure. An unholy mix of drinking with pals over from New York, pottering in the garden, visiting in-laws (complete with pregnant sister-in-law, so I may cry off), doing difficult DIY involving tiles and drills, sleeping, having a big Sunday lunch in a pub.

Weekend? My university is closed for the whole week, which doesn't come out of my annual leave.

Tonight: post-Cheltenham recovery session with racing buddies.

Tomorrow: going to see the Kylie exhibit at the V&A with a couple of mates and then lunch in South Kensington.

Other than that, no plans. I shall probably take advantage of all the Easter eggs being reduced to half price on Tuesday though.

I have no plans. I suspect I will aimlessly look at some houses and some cars. I will open the door to the garden and sigh heavily, then probably decide to only let people view the house in the dark. I'll probably get drunk a couple of times. maybe go and buy some clothes. If I can find anything that isn't horrid and eighties and involves leggings.

Ringo - could you tell me a bit about the BMW Z3 please? A colleague has just bought one and has offered to drive me home in it tonight. I need to be able to say something like: "Well, it's not bad, but it doesn't seem as responsive as an [INSERT CAR NAME]"

Posted by Ringo (Member # 47) on :

I've never driven one, but the impression I get from people who have, is that it's guilty of all the crimes that the MX-5 is wrongly accused of. I.e. it's a soft boring car in a sports car suit. I don't know though, as I've never even sat in one.

I would probably say, shruggingly, "Yeah, s'alrigh', I s'pose. Not very comfy, is it. Did you not have a choice over the interior, then? Bit loud, innit? Mind if I smoke."

Etc.

That sounds perfect. Hopefully, I'll survive the journey home - he's already written off one BMW.

Last car I drove was a BMW. Not much to say about it. It was a bit more responsive than my mother's Volkswagen Passat. This was a 5 series, though I imagine the same is probably true of the Z3.

Perhaps I'll just make vroom-vroooooooom noises all the way home, replicating the pitch of the engine. Could get a bit tiring on the M4 though.

Thursday evening. Farwell drinks with my colleagues. Might not be my last day. All I need for some to do is to confirm an acceptable leaving date with me. This seems impossible.

Previous plan: Meet Physic for a drink in London. The plan has changed. I'm going to Bath because my girlfriend has the whole of her massoof house to herself. Unlike me, who divided his double bed into two singles, so that my mate could stay. I no longer have a bedroom. I have a 'roomie' to share my dorm. My Dad has a present for me. Hopefully that's a real present. I don't want to hear I've been adopted or anything.

Other than that. In Bath, all weekend. Probably some beer. I might cook in the best kitchen in the world. Even the washing up is easy, as you simply have to turn the hot tap 'on' and whatever grime is on the plates evaporates. I don't know what we'll do! Who knows? I might boil some eggs. The world is my lobster.

I keep seeing "twistedandviolent" but then I'm high on a combination of Covonia, extra strength Tylenol (and later Tylenol PM), Beechams 'cold and flu' remedy and lager.

I hate being sick.

Bank Holiday plans seem to be haircut followed by day at Waynsters playing on the PS3 and watching High Def TV for Friday.

Saturday - Maybe a drive over to Antwerp to go to the Carrefour followed by an evening of drinking 'Kriek'

Sunday - No doubt a hangover and a roast dinner.

Monday - That feeling of dread knowing I have to go back into work Tuesday after having sneaked 6 days off thanks to the Bank Holiday weekend, one days normal 'holiday' and two days sick with this cough/cold/flu type thing..

Still, give me a chance to catch up on my reading..

Welcome new people...

my weekend should hopefully consist of staying in bed with a hot bloke apart from when I drag us out to go to London on Saturday to go drinking with twistedviolent et al. Although if the sex is too good then the meet will have to get bent. Sorry girlz.

LOL.. Still going to give the kids a bath and read them a story though - I'm doing it for them man, for them..

Twisty.. Do you mind if I call you Twisty ? I'm stunned that this cold seems to be covering most of Europe. Half of Holland's down with it, a lot of people I work with through England and Ireland also have the same thing.
The cough is the worst part, kept me up all night..

Still shouldn't complain..

How are you feeling ?

*Ralph, what did you get ? Seroxsat, Zoloft, Prozac or something new ?

Doctors have been suggesting I take anti-depressants for years. Since I stopped self-medicating (ie drugs and alcohol) about eight years ago, my depression has slowly gotten worse. A friend of mine recently suggested it to me as well -- he seems to be well-adjusted, he claims there were no major side affects, so I figured I'd finally give it a whirl. I'm on prozac at the moment.

Yeah sometimes I liked being my miserbale cynical old self, but it can fuck right off I really like the new happy, vibrant, confident me. And as the for sex thing, my pillbox said something similar for women (decreased libido, lack of orgasm)(as did ther BNF) but Ive found it to be the complete opposite for me tbh. For shits n giggles, I even tried a fap with a bottle of poppers under my nose, jaysus I almost put myself through to next week.

Hmm you might be alright though, there not a definate side effect, only whats been reported in trials.

Were your roller boot wheels aligned in one single straight line and the music was 'y'all ready for this?' by 2Unlimited? If so, it doesn't count and you can't go about bandying the term 'roller disco' about. esentially, if your trousers were loose enough for your legs to bend, you are considered the New Wave Of British Roller Discoing.

Mine were red, white and blue I think. I was great on my rollerboots. My grandparents used to call me 'the roller-skating waitress' when I was little, as I would skate around their house delivering food to my great-grandparents. :embarrassedlol:

the greatest time of my life was when I first took anti-depressants. It was like I could finally understand why people bothered to do things. But after a while that faded out, and they did little else than make the come downs off other drugs a bit softer.

But I'm guessing this isn't your first time, eh ralph?

It cracks me up as well. I really do see each poster in those photos. The cruel stare of Kovacs, the slightly haughty pose of Octavia, the edgy, scruffbag look of Damo, the trendy 80s Scrawny do, they all fit. Sort of.

They do all fit, especially the male posters. Benway, Fionnulla and Raz are my favourites.

I was about to be minorly offended by this, but I then I looked at all the others and realised that no-one gets to win.

Oh what a crazy life I led back then.

ralph, back in my uni days, I was asked to have therapy and take a course of pills or be kicked out - long story - so took the pills, but never actually took the pills. Until one day, just hours before myself and my friend were due to broadcast our radio show, we both took three prozac each.

The show was a weird mix of up-beat enthusiasm, and fear.

There was a great documentary on here last month, called The Trap (three part). One section was talking about how drug firms really pushed the idea of cataloguing human emotions such as apprehension and anxiety, in order to offer new wonder drugs to "cure" them. Prozac was mentioned a lot. In one archieve clip, a husband and wife were on a talk show. She (the taker) waxing lyrical. He saying that his wife was someone new, someone that he didn't know. It made me think of Body Snatchers.

Sorry, ralph. I'm not trying to scare you - it just reminded me of that.

I hope all goes well for you...

But hey, give the counselling a go - just be honest with yourself. When I first did it (being "forced" to do it) I resented every question and just wanted to get out of it. The next time, I got a lot out of it.

This made me think of my gran. Her and granddad were unhappily married. It's a family leg-end that every now and again she's go slightly mental and have to go in for that electric shock therapy. She'd come out all different and after she got her memory back she'd be all calm and accepting. He liked it but my mum always reckoned him giving up the other women would've worked as well.

I have never took anti-depressants. They have strange side effects which I suppose would make you depressed again. By the way it seems quite quiet on here now that it is bankholiday weekend.

How dark are dark thoughts? I mean are we talking about a constant dwelling on how great it would feel to sever the head of one of your sons and parade round Massachussets with your erection wedged into the head's windpipe, banging your chest and shouting "I am two-headed ralph! I am king of Masschussets!"? Or are we just talking about how sometimes you get the shopping in and you buy extra spicy Doritos because you know your wife won't eat them, which means you get to have twice as many, and when you do this you laugh all the way home?

Essentially, what counts as a dark thought? And if you're going to miss them, what stops you from thinking them anyway, by using your imagination?
