My sister gave birth on her own, in her bedroom at the Guide Dogs for the Blind training centre where she worked training guide dogs. She didn't know she was pregnant until the head started to come through [silly moo thought she has appendicitus]. Anyway, after giving birth the ambulance arrived and took her to hospital. They had to send the ambulance men back to her room to check if the placenta had all come away but it had been mauled so much by the dog that she was training that was staying with her so they couldn't tell. She then had to have an internal to check, which after what she had just gone through was not very pleasant. Please - make sure that you don't let a dog maul the placenta after you've given birth.
I can see this being an episode in From the Files of Thorn Davis - the actual tale bookended by an introductory segment featuring Thorn, resplendent in smoking jacket and cravat, reading from a mildewed file in a book-lined study... then returning to draw a gruesome moral from the story at the end of the programme, perhaps brandishing some macabre artefact of the scenes just witnessed by our horrified but transfixed eyes.

Gah. I read this and immediately became despondent about the fact no-one is willing to comission this program. I could say stuff like "This story will leave you feeling less than 100 pla cent" and "some creatures have a dogged enthusiasm for the birthing process". Goddamit. My life sucks.
