Masky isn't Bateman. In my head he's a huge, barrel chested bear of a man, who, if accidentally transported to the 19th century, would get on quite as well there as he does in the modern world. In my mind, he might also be wearing a stovepipe hat. He's jovial. Definitely jovial. Patrick Bateman wasn't jovial.
The first time I flounced from TMO it was over American Psycho. And one of the first RECOGNISED posts I made on here comparted Mr Benway to Patrick Bateman.
I am not sure why I have demoted Benway from being a doctor.

I think Benway surgeon would just be terrified of his own incompetence, rather than sinister. He'd just be the most uninspiring surgeon ever, hoping to god he didn't fuck up and ruin your life.

And then I'd probably feel guilty about putting him under that pressure. What was I thinking? This man can't go to the theatre because he sits there rigid with fear that someone's going to forget a line and embarrass themselves. And I'm askiing him to perform some kind of invasive surgery. It's hardly fair. I'm sure he'd do his best, but it's not right to put someone like that in that situation, and you have to question the system that puts someone with a degree in sociology and a background in educational IT in charge of an operating theatre, when he's only going to crack under the stress of possible consequences and is wildly underqualified. It's not right.
