I would say that's more of a 'mulch' than a 'sludge', strictly speaking, Ringo.

ETA: I am talking about leaves, of course. Stop looking at me!

Yes, I can see that you would think something like that.

You never know when a misunderstanding of this kind may lead to later unpleasantness.

I hate written down dialect in novels and that. Even ones that I stand a chance of understanding, like South London or something. Isn't that sort of thing in the Top 10 No NO NO list for writers? It bloody well should be. In fact, I even used to get completely frazzled reading Hagrid's dialogue in Harry Potter till I saw the film and realised it was meant to be West Country sort-of-thing. Might have been worth signalling that to the readers at some stage Ms Rowling.

Yeah but Kipling is a Genius and therefore allowed to get away with it. It can be murder to read though, and there are some bits where I have to read it out loud in order to have the faintest clue what's being said.

Well here in Ireland we never really get clearly definable "seasons" as such. Typical Irish weather forecast: "Sunny spells and some scattered showers." Well, that's a big fucking help isn't it ?

It pissed rain a lot during the Official Summer Months, so the news that Autumn is approaching doesn't do anything for me. On the plus side, I'm going to New York for the first two weeks in October and the weather should be JUST FINE.

If you have the opportunity, try to make your way to the Catskills (New York) or Berkshires (Western Massachusetts) while you're in the area - about 2 or 3 hours' drive north from the city. The autumn colors should be at their peak there at about that time. If you're into that sort of thing, of course.
