I wonder what the local Tunisians [is it in Tunisia? I think it is anyway] must think the rest of the world is like when the only outsiders that come and visit are Star Wars fans.

It's like if only Rocky Horror Show fans ever went to visit Transylvania. Or something.

(Gimme a break, it took me ten minutes to come up with that analogy.)

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I think I resolved to quit smoking and do more exercise. I failed to quit smoking until the end of the year but it's been getting on for three months now since I had a cigarette, so I guess I achieved it by the end of 2005 after all. Exercise: I did a pretty good job at the beginning of the year, because I had a contract right next to the YMCA in Tottenham Court Road - you know the road, it's the one Benway famously walked down the middle of. I had a burst of vanity exercising before a stag do in Ibiza - when I was told to get 'Beach Fit' for the occasion. There were threats of the entire party wearing Speedos (sp?). It never happened. As soon as I got back, I didn't bother exercising again regularly for the rest of the year - a few days here and there in the gym but nothing else.

Did anyone close to you give birth?

The Stalk left my sister her second baby - Harry. He's a gurgling, smiling puke machine these days. About four thousand other people had babies. I, and my friends, are at that fertile/boring age.

Did anyone close to you die?

The heart of my friend TMO stopped beating for lengthy periods. There are still faint signs of life, though.

What countries did you visit?

India with Beyonce, Spain for a wedding and Ibiza for a stag.

What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
More time to spend with my friends and less weekend commitments. With a wedding to arrange, it's never going to happen.

What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory forever?
None really stick in the memory. I've already forgotten the date when I proposed. August.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being given a huge opportunity on the work front

What was your biggest failure?
Bottling on the huge opportunity and doing anything to avoid it...this is still going on in 2006. Be careful what you wish for.

Did you suffer any illness or injury?
I didn't fall down the stairs and leave myself barely able to walk until the day after 2005. Other than that….I had to go to Moorfields to have my eye done (damaged by an inflatable ghost fifteen years ago) - I have corneal abrasion syndrome (scratched eye, never heals properly - pain in the arse/eye).

What was the best thing you bought?
Oh I don't know…a wireless router, yes. Surfing on the toilet is a liberating experience.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Benway…he came out of the other side as a chirpy, happy (relative, people) person to be around.

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
One particular friend who has just become tighter and tighter with money, to the point where people don't actually want to see her.

Where did most of your money go?
Into the money pit that is the flat which should be sold. Fackin' fairsands it's cost me.

What thing did you get really, really, really excited about?
Erm…don't know. It was quite exciting when I realised I was bullet proof in Ibiza and could spend four days acting like a 19 year old again.

What songs will always remind you of 2005?
Me and Mrs Jones and that "Flashlights and explosions" tune.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
Sadder, fatter, poorer. All of which are temporary. I don't expect them to last the year.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise, writing, picking up the phone to friends (it was actually, I've just remembered, my New Year's Resolution to do that. I did better than the year before but…still shit.), properly posting on TMO.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Dicking about when I could be working. Playing Urban Dead

How will you be spending Christmas?
Home with folks - I think it will be the last time I spend it without girlfriend/Beyonce - it's not allowed when we're married apparently, so there's a chance I won't have Christmas with the family next year. Which is weird.

Did you fall in love in 2005?
Nope.

How many one-night stands?
Zero.

What was your favourite TV program?
Peep Show, Dragons' Den?

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No

What was the best book you read?
I enjoyed Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Passage to India, The Kite Runner…old shit really…nothing of 2005

What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

Go to my first TMO meet.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I dont remember making any resolutions for last year. I guess I had a theme as such. Which was 'to be more self-sufficient'

Having just left a very unhappy relationship I was pretty determined not to rely on anyone else but myself in 2005. I think it worked.

The theme for 2006 I think I have narrowed down to 'stop apologising for everything all the time'

What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?

Stability on all fronts...oh and money...

What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Starting in a new job and managing to work for longer than six months without wanting to look for another one!

What was your biggest failure?

Being a born worrier and over-analysing everything

Did you suffer any illness or injury?

yes

What was the best thing you bought?

My new pc and a ball gown for my sales conference in January. Its lush and is the most expensive item of clothing I've ever bought at £350!

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

My ex-best friend. I thought most people had a sense of right and wrong but obviously not her...Not that I'm still bitter or anything...

Where did most of your money go?

Not a clue. If someone finds out can they let me know?

What thing did you get really, really, really excited about?

Sad but true; I was quite excited about Benways meat...

Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder?

Depends on which day you catch me; but for the most part happier.

b) Thinner or fatter?

Thinner! woohooo!

c) Richer or poorer?

Most definately poorer. Took a 3 grand pay cut to start on sales and beginning to regret that more and more as time goes by, but i'm not on the breadline so...

What do you wish you'd done more of?

Selling

What did you do on your birthday?

I dont know. I cant remember. Thats a bad thing right?

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Not living with my parents.

What kept you sane?

TMO

Who was/were the best new person/people you met?

Everyone who went to Benways meat of course!

OK, here goes - sorry.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

I started thinking about my own death, how, when, would it hurt and why did it have to happen. Then I got scared.

I've never even thought about it up until this year, Why ? No idea.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Get less fat, continue jogging, find direction, find passion, find life again because I think I've lost it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No

4. Did anyone close to you die?

John - And one of our cats died yesterday.

5. What countries did you visit?

England, Belgium, France, Luxembourg

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?

Energy, desires, a goal or something to aim for, the feeling that things will get better and not this hollow, empty, dead, passionless state of continual boredom and confusion which currently occupies my soul.

6. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory forever?

None

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Getting out of bed in the morning and not just curling up and staying put.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I didn't try and do anything, so I couldn't really fail.
I had a series of really bad interviews though which really fucked me over. One more interview with a smug faced 12 year old and I might even go postal on Amsterdams ass.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?

I think I may be having some form of meltdown, it started in 2005, I hope it ends soon.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Ipod shuffle - great for jogging.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Beckett - He's remarkably cheerful and has a great lust for life, without him I think I'd probably have given up this year.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

My own, I don't know what's wrong with me and I can't snap out of it.

14. Where did most of your money go?

In the bank, but considering I've not worked since March I didn't have much of it.

15. What thing did you get really, really, really excited about?

I wish I could get excited but currently there have been no highs or lows, there's just a constant and dismal drone (much like white noise).

Marginally thinner

Flat broke

Hard to say, I did enjoy Festival.

30. What did you do on your birthday?

I honestly don't know.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Remembering what was there before what's there now.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?

I don't shave or cut my hair anymore, I've not really bought any new clothes or anything so this year I'd sum it up with 'homeless'.

33. What kept you sane?

My son - But only just.

One of the Pussycat Dolls, not saying which one though.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

Fuck politics

I met a lot of nice people, I'd be unable to choose.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.

Enjoy every second while you can because when you cease being able to enjoy things anymore you really freak out.

Sorry about your cat, Darryn. I don't really care so much about John though, to be honest. I mean, you put John's name first so he's probably important. But a pet dying is more sad somehow.

I am...

It's not like I'm depressed or anything daft like that, it's more like being lost in thick fog, there's no clarity, nothing to see, hear or feel.
At first you are a bit scared but then you realise that there's nothing to be scared of so you just stumble about blindly waving your arms and hoping you find something, but never do.

What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Bought furniture.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Broke them all. This year I'll, as ever: quit smoking, cut down on alcohol, eat healthy, exercise, develop some sort of ambition, grow the fuck up.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yeah. So cute.

Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank god.

What countries did you visit?
Lol! India, Nepal, Tibet, Western China, Hong Kong, LA, Vegas, Macau, Thailand, Cambodia since you ask.

What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Love, direction, hope.

What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory forever?
None.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Returning to London.

What was your biggest failure?
Where to begin?

Did you suffer any illness or injury?
No. Yes. No. Alcohol got out of control, but I took care of it.

What was the best thing you bought?
See above.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Huh? Um, Michael Jackson.

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My own.

Where did most of your money go?
Alcohol.

What thing did you get really, really, really excited about?
I don't get excited about anything anymore!

What songs will always remind you of 2005?
Kelly Clarkson's excellent These Hazel Eyes. No, really.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier, fatter, poorer.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Thinking.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Running.

How will you be spending Christmas?
In the boring Fens with my crazy mother and two brothers feeling awkward. Thank god for Sky TV.

Did you fall in love in 2005?
No, but I could have done I guess.

How many one-night stands?
One or two.

What was your favourite TV program?
Old standbys: Scrubs, Nip/Tuck, Everybody Loves Raymond. And, er, Joey which is rubbish but comfortable.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No don't think so, but there are a couple of people I hated last year that I tolerate now.

What was the best book you read?
A Perfect Spy by John Le Carre.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Chinese Hip Hop. Imagine how spoken Chinese sounds. Add a swaggering hip hop beat. It was shit! I did quite like Chinese girl pop though.

What did you want and get?
Some stability.

What did you want and not get?
Contentment, happiness, meaning.

What was your favourite film of this year?
Turtles Can Fly and / or Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

What did you do on your birthday?
Got drunk in a Bangkok Blues Bar, raged at God, slept with a Finn.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More money.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Unkempt, shabby, tailored.

What kept you sane?
Teh internet.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I'm totally obsessed with Lindsay Lohan.

What political issue stirred you the most?
I love the fact that Cocaine Kate will earn three times as much this year than in 2005.

Who did you miss?
The 'dappy bitch'.

Who was/were the best new person/people you met?
Sarah & Lizzie who were incredible but I was being a dramatic idiot. Troubled Australian fashion model that became my best bud. Wonderful English couple that were just pure love. Crazy NYC chick that is simple arrogant honesty. My new shy friend Claire, she looks like a doll. Classmate Kirby, cuz it's nice to have someone you can gently ridicule. And Amp, if she counts as 'new'.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
That I fucking rock.
