GtG is Gloucester Training Group. TMO trolled them in 2003 and they came back as a hive mind under a single ID and were so mean to Herbs that Black Mask swore revenge and gunned them all down outside their small training base. So far as we know, he got away with it.

Maybe what Nathan needs to enjoy books more is for them to be printed on A3 with 5.1 speakers attached pumping Brian Blessed's voice as you read along.

Well, my TV is nearer my face than a cinema screen but I can still tell the difference between a 32in image and a 32ft one and I think the experience is obviously different as a result. That's why people are prepared to shell out on big screen TVs rather than just move the sofa closer to the television. The difference is even more pointed when you're comparing a TV screen to a tiny mobile device. Come on. Look at what you're arguing here: that you can't tell the difference between something that's small, and something that's further away. Essentially you're comparing yourself to a developmentally retarded comedy priest from Father Ted.

Realistically, no film is going to be represented in any remotely acceptable sense on a screen that fits into the palm of your hand. Imagine the sense of threat generated by the close ups of HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey bearing down on you in your living room from a big screen. Now try and imagine how those same shots would look with HAL winking up at you from the palm of your hand, like the little LED that comes on when your camera flash is charged.

Mmm. I don't think that's a good point of comparison at all - I'm not advocating crass pizazz, just that maybe if something's worth watching, it's probably worth watching in a way that does justice to the material.

A better analogy might be the difference between reading a book, or just reading the York notes and being satisifed you pretty much got the gist of it

Yeah... Not really though. I mean you are watching the entire movie. You do get to hear the entire soundtrack (even if it is in glorious dolby 2.0 sterio). Not that I disagree with you, it seems a silly idea to me.

I could understand it if perhaps if you were on a longhaul flight and would rather pick your tiny movie than watch the latest rom-com bullshit. Also it would be good if you had the new series of Lost in Prisonbreak Housewives or something to keep you occupied on the train ride home. Then you don't need the whole immersive thing going on anyway.

How depressing must it be for directors making films nowadays, knowing that the slack-jawed public would rather watch them on their computer, with Celebrity Big Brother on in the background, or on a 4cm x 4cm screen on a fucking trophy phone. Why should they even bother?

The mobile phone must be the most personality-changing invention since the car, I guess. It makes people greedy, stupid, rude and lazy. I hate people.

There was an article in the Economist saying that the mobile is the car of today, expect people to have 'sportier' weekend models etc.

Maybe the corrilation of viewing on smaller screens is to ease people into High Definition - the big screen stuff I've seen on HD is weird to the eye at the moment, and far too bright for the most part.... Not really sure what that means.

I like persons, I hate people.

FACT: Rock n Roll rebels Towers of London shamefully did some kind of promotion with McVities. As my old colleague Nicola lived with one of them, she stole a few packets of their complimentary biscuits and I ate them. Even though I have no fans, no record deal and dress like a mincer, I am clearly the most Rock n Roll. Because it works a bit like the quickening. Except by eating another bands biscuits.

Look at those pictures, I don't recognise any of them.

Anyhow, how cool is it that you get a little arrow and previous chart postition now, so very top of the pops so very hot right now.

Mekon & Roxanne Shanté is the second track I've actually paid for and downloaded. The first being 22grand job (The Rakes at no. 2 - curiously up from number 2?? maybe this arrow thing isn't working quite right after all).

Man what a messy post

oh well

I downloaded some good stuff last week - The James Brown at joint number 7 is "King Heroin" where James narrates his way through the negative points of the drug. Pretty sweet finishes with these lyrics "Sure my name is Heroin! You'll be back for a taste
Behold, you're hooked!
Your foot is in the stirrup
And make -- haste!
Mount the steed!
And ride him well
For the white horse of heroin
Will ride you to Hell!
To Hell!
Will ride you to Hell!
Until you are dead!
Dead, brother! Dead!
"

Pretty good.

What else? oh a bit of Rancid in there too - I went through a little punk phase when I was a younger and I downloaded some Rancid with my 25 free emusic downloads. Enjoying listening to their stuff again. Some nice lyrics there too.
 -

Mason vs Princess Superstar - saw the video on MTV Dance. A bit of a sucker for these type of pop/dance sexy girls in leotard genre. "Absolute filth" - my dad

Got a bit of Jarvis Cocker in there too. I like a few of his songs - I got Pulp - Cocaine Socialism and ***** are still running the world, neither of which I have heard before and both of which I really like.

Also listening to Just Jack, bit like the streets, not sure if it's going to be one that lasts but it's pretty easy on the ear at the moment.

Nothing new or suprising here. The Masami Yone is the music from rhythm tengoku. Homeless Derelix is some nice positive hiphop that sounds like it's straight from 1992, but as far as I know, the album I was listening to is from 2005. If you like Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Gangstarr etc, then it's one to check out.

The Horror Podcast is terrible. Some manc bloke who talks about the horror films he watched the previous week. But I get the impression that he only half watched them, didn't really like them, and then has forgetten anything other than the bare plot details by the time he talks about them. So it's a just a bloke telling you what happened, rather than adding any commentary or points of interest. On one of the podcasts he spent ten minutes reading reviews off imdb. User created content is RUBBISH.

Finally got the madvillain album. Some fantastic tracks there.

Lots of new entries this week! Atmosphere is a band that's previously turned up on the Similar Artist Radio for people like Murs, Cage, etc, but I finally 'took the plunge' and downloaded a couple of albums from mp3stor.com (only $1.50 an album - amazing!), and it's pretty good stuff. Sparse beats, and lyrics that have an quiet everyday poetry to them rather than bravado or cock grabbing. So, very much the opposite of RA The Rugged Man, whose album Die Rugged Man, Die positively stinks of hairy testosterone and cum soaked gutters. It's growing on me - the beats are kind of similar to the second Eminem album but his twangy bear-like voice and bottomless self hatred mark him out as a different kind of white MC. Worth checking out.

Broken Social Scene is an unlikely entry. This was prompted after the tune "Anthems for a seventeen year old girl" popping up on personal radio station a couple of times. The album... Yeah, it's alright. It's nothing amazing though, and sounds almost exactly like I'd expect it to sound. Still, that tune is still lovely.

Plastic Little got most of the play on the ipod last week. They're fun, with nuggets of inspired beauty hidden within some super-obese beats and ryhmes, delivered party style.

Also, let's all take a moment to remember Disco D, who topped himself in January. [Frown]

I'm suprised that you bought an iPod, Benway. I thought you didn't like having music pumped directly into your ears.

Yeah, that's right bitches. The name might have changed, but I still remember everything.

Did you download any Clutch in the end? I bet you didn't did you? I bet if I'd called it a 'podcast' and stuck it on a faddish website for download you'd have listened to it, and pretended you liked it. Robot Hive is a great album.

yeah, these days it's the best chance I've got to listen to music. Living in a matchbox with Louise restricts my listening time, so I had to bite the bullet. Plus my neighbour has gone militant about music now, and I can't even hum a tune after 10, let alone put anything on. [Frown]

Hello again.

About time I gave you lot more stuff to download, so let's start with Operator Please, a bunch of schoolkids from Oz. Just A Song About Ping Pong* is now out on 7in in the UK and has been played a lot on 6music. Ace, even though Amandah trips over the words a bit. Get What You Want is off their new EP. And here's Crash Tragic (not Crash Traction as the tags would have you believe).

The McCarricks. Martin McCarrick on cello and Kimberlee McCarrick on violin. I saw them accompanying Kristin Hersh back in Nov '05 and they're opening for her on the UK tour in March (they're also on her new album). Here's an interview with them from a couple of weeks ago. 3 tracks to download from their site: Genetically Modified, In The Key Of Three, Bend. Enjoy!

*ETA: TMO didn't seem to like the url to Ping Pong so I've linked to the original blog
