The contractor who was going to do the bulk of the construction on Phase II of the new ralph house was originally unavailable until next spring, but has suddenly become free. Today I'm meeting with the credit union folks to see what I can do to finance this project.
For those of you who don't remember, this is the emergency shelter that was slapped up about a year and a half ago:
It's a whopping 300 square feet! Phase II plans are being drawn up as we speak, and we're hoping to add an additional 1,000 square feet to the existing building.
This thread will sort of be a blog of what's going on in the process, complete with pictures, as it progresses. Watch this space for shots of the land prior to de-foresting and excavation, all the way up the final product!
I hope to start clearing the land this weekend if I can get the $$$ to build the new structure. Wish me luck! Or don't!
eta: I should probably mention that I'll be taking some time off from work (at least three weeks) to assist in the framing of the structure. It shold be interesting, as I've not done anything like this before.

Thank you sir. The change in my wife's health since she left the old moldy house has been quite dramatic. She's doing great, just a little frustrated by not having a real home.

Hey that's great news, I bet you're really excited. I've got to say I'm pretty jealous, I'd love to be able to get stuck into a project like that.
Is it going to be another wooden building or are you going for bricks etc?

Thanks guys. Same as last time. Post and pier construction. All wood. The best thing about doing it now is that my neighbor took a lot of trees down last fall and had a portable sawmill on his property to turn everything into boards. So we can cheaply purchase rough-cut hemlock to do the sheathing and oak for the floors. The only think we really have to go outside of my town to purchase is the framing lumber and the metal roof.

You should build a porch and post a picture of you+beard+rocking chair on the porch!
Thanks!
If you look closely at the left-hand side of the image I posted, you'll see there already is a small porch. If mrs. ralph has her way, and the $$$ comes through, she'd like a screened-in porch of the back of the new place.

I'm off to the credit union now. Stayed tuned to CNN to see if any man goes beserk, kills 10 at credit union stories show up. This is really our last hope. If I can't get the money here, I have no idea where it will come from.

Yo! Ralph! Great stuff. I hope you get some money through. In fact, I hope it came through immediately and you have started your three weeks off and are hammering away at some timber now.
Good luck bearman.

It is quite shocking him not getting into work at 4am Misc but perhaps we should give him a few hours before assuming he's being brutally sodimised with his county blues around his ankles?

Yes, I understand the time difference. I meant that he hadn't posted yestereve. But I suppose he might not have an Internet in his forest.

I believe he has something like 16.6k dialup in his hut and so using the internet is painful. Perhaps he felt that sharing the good/bad news with his family was more important than sharing it with TMO? If this is the case then I for one am very disappointed. You've changed ralph, you used to be cool.

If it is bad news can we call down an internet strike on the credit union place? Spam them to death or something? Or like, hack in to their system and give ralph the money anyway!

Not 2pm. ralph is 5 hours behind and he's generally at work really early because he's a jobsworth so he should be in about 12pm.

Christ! I'm not sure I can take this!
It'll be fine. The first type of loan I'm applying for is a home equity line of credit. This one's a bit iffy, but the other option is just a simple personal credit line and I have no doubt I can get one of those. It's just that the home equity line would be less expensive and easier to manage each month.
Since I didn't take a pic of me applying for the home equity line, here's some stock footage of me picking an apple. Or at least holding an apple and giving it a dirty look....
