Maybe I've unfairly made you a target for my longstanding annoyance at the cultural meme that there's something laughable or incorrect about white people enjoying rap music.

On Radio 4 the other day, Evan Davis was interviewing Chris Rock about his documentary "Good Hair", which is about all the hair products used by Black people. Davis was going on about how Black people use these products "because they want to look like White people", and how unfortunate this was. I was, like, what? Hasn't he looked around him at all for the last two decades? Even my middle-class 13-year-old, who has only seen Black people on the television, wears his jeans so low that you can see most of his Tesco boxer shorts. And he's got a white "NY" baseball cap. They can explain this to you on Barbelith. I think it goes that if a black person is trying to look/act/dress like a white person they're a victim of some kind of cultural homogenisation, and have been made to feel ashamed of their heritage. If a white person dresses in styles traditionally seen as 'black', or listens to 'black' music, then they're co-opting the superficial elements of black culture and in doing so are devaluing it and treating it with a lack of respect.

If it's a young white male who is doing this that's worst of all, because according to cultural commentators The Black Man is the ultimate symbol of hyper-masculinity, so in dressing like him your son isn't just patronising blacks, he's hating on women, too.

In fact I can't believe you've allowed your family to get into this grim state of affairs.

Fundamental misinterpretation by Davis there, I think. And he's gay, so he should know better. If people want straight hair (and the sheer number of hairstraighteners sold to white people ought to back this up) it's because straight hair shines while curly hair doesn't. Because of the shape of the follicle. Shiny hair is nice. It's not White.

1. I'm not wearing anything, I'm in bed, but if I was wearing something it would be blue jeans, a t-shirt with an image on it, and some white trainers.

2. I didn't have any lunch, but if I had have done, it would have been a ham and cheese sandwich from the shop up the road

3. My weekend plans are to go to a wedding tomorrow that I am not looking forward to, and will probably act like a whiny bitch the whole time I'm there because I'm a dickhead. Then on sunday it's way time to tidy this place up. Kitchen is totally out of control. Tonight I will weep in the arms of my girlfriend, and beg her to kill me to prevent me from ever drinking Jack Daniels again.

4. last film i watched was trainspotting, because it was on the other night and it's been a few years. Before that it was a film called 'lord of illusions', which had scott bakula in it, and I convinced my girlfriend that he was james van der beek's dad.

yes i know, its not friday, but im taking advantage of the fact that i am not tied to the bristol libraries system (from which tmo is blocked due to 'profanity', lulz) to make connections with all my tmo peeps. hi peeps! i am peeping you with my Predator Eyeball.

1. what is the question? something about clothes. black tshirt from primark that unfortunately exaggerates my sexy bingowings, but fortunately also makes my crackers look absolutely knocking. brown linen loonpants from a shop in the arcadia group (secondhand, so thats all the info i can give, im afraid. mucho soz). cheap and rattly necklace from primark which features twelve brass butterflies connected by their wingtips. for a cheapo piece of tat its really rather striking. black and white pump- style shoes, also from primark. im sure im not usually this reliant on primark for my wardrobe staples. maybe i am, i dont know. its certainly not within the realms of unpossibility.

2. lunch. not had one yet. might eat something sandwichey, possibly from a shop.

3. my weekend plans were to hang out in county donegal, sit in the snug of a pub drinking alcohol- free guinness (should such an extraordinary thing exist) and listening to ancient folk wisdom spooling from the tongue of a cap- wearing grandfather with milky eyes and cloudy hair, before being taught how to soulfully pound on the skin of a bodhran. the whine of the fiddle, the rattle of the bones, the soaring song of the penny flute. ah, the 'craic'. unfortunately, my step- dad went and had some sort of mini- stroke, the inconsiderate BASTARD, so i ended up spending a substantial proportion of my weekend in the lewisham riverdale shopping centre instead. never mind. step- papa is okay and i got to mauraud primark's jewellery department so it wasnt all bad.

4. listening to: my new girlcrush janelle monae, sly and the family stone, caribou. all of which are JUST FINE.

although on thursday i repeatedly told benway to fuck off without using emoticons, so he might have left the whole internet. he might be dead. he might have killed himself. he could equally have decided to sit in a darkened room drinking paintthinner and watching ultraviolence for the next four days though.

Can't see how it's my fault. I blame Boy Racer. And I notice Ice Cube has been pretty tight-lipped about the whole thing.

Wearing: tee and Jeans, vans hi tops (old).

Eating: Just ate a cheese and tomato sandwich followed by a Mr Kipling Neopolitan Bakewell tart, which was an experiment. It turns out to be ok. Definitely gives you that sense of eating Neopolitan ice cream without the coldness, and they replaced the cherry with a piece of chocolate - pretty sweet. Don't know if they are going to be around forever or whether they are just one of these novelty cake ideas that disappear after a couple of weeks, but if you're a fan of the original Kipling Bakewell then I'd recommend you give them a go.

Don't know whether this is linked but almost immediately after eating the cake I felt incredibly drowsy and fell asleep on the sofa for about 45mins. After that i had to drive to pick up some stuff and I had to get a cherry coke just for the caffiene hit, now feeling slightly better although still could go back to sleep in an instant.

Been listening to the epic 27 and 28 controllerthrow podcasts with the e3 coverage.

Watched: Kick Ass which was very enjoyable and the new Bad Lietenant which was also very enjoyable. Although I'm a Nicolas Cage lover not a hater, I still feel he goes over the top when doing his crazy coked-up routine "to the break of dawn". Similar bit in Face Off as I remember and probably every other film he's in. But still, good film innit...

Last email: a couple of amendments from a client.

Playing: Skate 3 in my xbox, haven't got into it yet but starting to feel like I want to play it a bit more now, so far it's been a bit start/stop with no real incentive to just cruise around and discover places - although you can easily do that if you want. However I need to give it some serious playing. Also started Bayonetta before that and just didn't get into it at all, which I found surprising considering all the playage it has recieved from forum members on here, although to be fair I probably need to give it a bit more time.

Just now:

Me: Hello, I just tried to get a quote for my car insurance on your website, but it said there was a problem and to call you.

Him: Right okay, can you give me the reference number, blah de blah

Me: Yeah sure, blah de blah

Him: Okay, I can help you this. Let me just check a few things. Are you happy with all the information that you keyed in?

Me: Happy?

Him: Yes. Are you happy with all the information that you keyed in.

Me: Happy in what way?

Him: Are you happy with all the information that you keyed in.

Me: What do you mean by happy?

Him: I mean are you happy with all the information that you keyed in.

Me: Er... I'm not sure what you mean by happy.

Him: I mean are you happy with all the information that you keyed in.

Me: Am I happy with it... I'm still not sure what you mean by happy.

Him: I mean... are you happy with all the information that you keyed in.

Me: Could you use a different word than happy?

Him: ...No. Are you happy with all the information that you keyed in?

Me: ...

Him: ...

Me: Do you mean is it true?

Him: ... Yes. Are you happy with all the information that you keyed in?

Me: Well... er... it's true, but I can't say I'm happy with it.

Him: ... Right... sir, well I can give you your quote now...

I genuinely just had that conversation, only it was even more protracted than that.

Presumably when you're as retarded as your average car insurance phone person, successfully performing even a relatively simple task such as accurately keying in your personal details onto a form, is followed by a great sense of pride and satisfaction.

Mart's story is great, and made even better by the thought that the salesman's probably turning round to his colleagues right now, saying "Can you believe this fucking idiot I just had on the phone?"

Reading the word 'happy' so many times has made me realise what a ridiculous word it is.

Look at it:

happy

Now say it out loud and listen to it.

"happy"

Fuck, I don't think I'll ever be able to use it again now. Thanks Mart.

Glum, more than anything.

I wonder if they'll manage to get the smell of salami out of the classrooms before they're sold as flats? I can't imagine L-16 ever being considered fit for human habitation.
